“Connecting with others is rewarding; it makes us feel like we’re not alone in the world.” This quote by
Jonah Berger is very true, especially with our world today. Now, imagine a world without any communication, a
place where we don’t even know that there are people with darker or fairer complexion than ours. It’s hard to
imagine a world like that, right? As our world grows and innovates, we must strengthen our connection with others
too. And one of the ways to do that is by globalization. Globalization is our world’s way to unite and help each other
in different fields. It is essential because it connects and helps countries around the world to become culturally,
economically and politically stable and developed. Especially to those countries that need assistance, like the
Philippines.
We can’t deny the fact that the Philippines is one of the countries around the world that needs aid. We are
economically and politically unstable and we need every help that we can get. Now, because of globalization, we are
slowly but effectively rising from our dark past. The Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich provided data about our
global economic standing that tells us how our economy grew in the past 50 years. We are also recognized by other
countries worldwide by holding international events in the Philippines. Global activities like Miss Universe;
entertainment events like concerts, musical plays, expos, and more. Also in sports like FIBA Olympic qualifying
rounds in 2016 and hopefully, we will be hosting the FIBA World Cup in 2023. Globalization helps us in boosting
and presenting the wonders of our country to others.it also opens borders in trading that can help our country grow
economically. Because of globalization, we are encouraged to open the trade industry that can benefit us in many
ways. Our connection with other countries helps us in buying equipment that can protect provide benefits for us. As
evidence, our country purchased 2 navy vessels from France to boost our defense and to have a better relationship
with France.
Globalization also creates bridges for the technological field. It opens different countries that share knowledge
and train skills in technology and innovation. There are schools in the Philippines that send students to different
parts of the world to learn and train. It can help our country in improving our experiments, innovations, and
studies.
But of course, we can’t deny that there are disadvantages of globalization. One of these is the effect of
globalization on the Philippines’ GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Globalization may increase the patronage of
Filipino citizens in purchasing imported products instead of their local products. On the brighter side, our products
are known worldwide because of globalization. An example is the dried mangoes we export that is now a huge
demand from other countries. Philippine citizens must learn to give importance to their products to strengthen our
economy. It is also said that globalization creates global competition, boosting our product consumption that pollutes
our environment. But if globalization is harmful to the environment, would that mean stopping globalization will
erase the harms in our environment? I don’t think so. As individuals, we should be responsible for our surroundings.
We can’t stop the improvement of technology or innovation because we don’t want to stop learning. We can’t stop
asking, improving, learning. It is our nature we further expand. But caring for our environment is a necessity we
must improve too and that would happen if each of us is moving for the goodness of our surroundings.
Our world is always divided into 2 sides. There is good and bad, yes and no, advantages and disadvantages,
and that are something we can’t erase or control. That is why we have different beliefs and globalization is not far
from that. It has its good and bad effects. But its main goal is to connect, to build bridges, to strengthen bonds, and
to widen our understanding about the world. Looking back, according to every religion we believe and know
interconnectedness is never a bad thing. It is our mission to reach those from afar, to help those in need. We can’t
say that globalization can benefit all of us, but we’re a democratic country and we believe in the power of the
majority, but it doesn’t mean we are disregarding the minority. We want stability; without poverty and
unemployment, without discrimination. Now that is globalization’s main goal.
