Classroom Management Philosophy

Instruction in the classroom

The best method of teaching is student-centered. Students are engaged, motivated,

and interested to learn. To achieve this, it is important to create lessons that keep the

students responsible for their learning, and foster curiosity of the world in which they live.

The instruction I provide will not only allow the students to practice academic skills, but

also social skills. The material will be introduced, explained, then demonstrated by myself

and the students, and then there will be student practice.

The students will engage in a lot of class discussions about the topics they learn

about and explore. This will allow students to be exposed to different perspectives and

practice communication with their peers. For example, this can occur in reading with the

same or different books, like participating in a book club, in math when working on a math

problem, or in science or social studies when students to work in groups to complete an

experiment or research an event, and then discuss what they learned.

Movement will also be incorporated into student learning. I like being able to have

the kids get up and out of their seats, and explore while moving and feeling like they are

exploring. For example, I created a lesson in which I outlined continents with duct tape on

the floor, and had small groups “fly” to the continent I described. For students, this was so

much more valuable than having them do another worksheet.

The instruction found in my classroom will be important, interesting, and adjusted

based on the feedback I receive from my students.

Goals of classroom management

The goals of my classroom management plan is to ensure student safety and

learning. Within the plan are procedures for students to be responsible for following in

order to maintain a classroom that reflects a successful learning community. The

procedures I plan to implement in my classroom will be introduced, demonstrated, and

practiced during the first week of school. There will be procedures for entering the

classroom in the morning, getting ready to learn in the morning, transitioning between

subjects and activities, cleaning up, checking homework, turning in assignments, doing

group work, participating in discussions, packing up, and more. The students will be

responsible to following the procedures that I will have introduced, but they will have

explained and committed to.

My main goal of the classroom management plan i design is to have a productive

learning environment. I have done practicums in many classrooms where the teacher

spends more time dealing with disruptions and explaining a direction than actually

teaching. I would like a smooth, functioning classroom where the students are safely able to

participate in active learning and function as a community.

Students will be held to high expectation and will be accountable for following the

procedures. The classroom functionality will be heavily reliant on the students to make

sure everyone is following direction, checking homework, cleaning up the room, and being

a good citizen. Every student will have a key role in making sure the classroom community

is successful and safe.

Beliefs about students and teachers

Students and teachers are dependent on one another to create an effective

classroom. The teacher assumes the role of a guide, protector, facilitator, leader, role

model, parent, teacher, and human Google. Depending on the students, there are many

roles the teacher is seen as. Students assume the role as friends, citizens, learners, children,

and explorers.

Within the classroom, students and teachers both receive feedback through

formative and summative assessment. Students are given responsibilities and are held

accountable for their responsibilities. The teacher will be walking around and available for

help and feedback during student practice. The student will be responsible for asking

questions to help the teacher know what needs to be retaught and explained in a different

way.

Teachers facilitate learning and come up with ways to make sure each students is

able to learn the material and exercise their right to learn. Teachers are there not only to

teach, but to foster a professional relationship with the students. Most students need

someone to care and to support them, therefore, a teacher is so much more than just an

authoritative figure. Many students come to school from a home without support and

academic guidance. It is up to the teacher to get to know the students and be able to

support and facilitate learning.

Conclusion

Overall, the classroom management plan I have described will be student-centered

and based on student roles and feedback. All students will be held to high expectations, and

I will do everything I can to make sure I create a community of learners and friends. All

students will be taught and required to respect one another and be open-minded. The

students will understand their crucial role in learning and helping me, as the teacher, guide

them in their own exploration.
