1.2 Functions
Measuring function
This function can measure voltage (rms value, mean-value or DC) and its peak value,
current (rms value, mean-value or DC) and its peak value, and active power.
Voltage range : 30V, 60V, 100V, 200V, 400V and 600V
Current range : 0.5A, 1A, 2A, 5A, 10A and 20A
External shunt input range : 50mV, 100mV and 200mV
Computing Function
This functions can compute and display crest factor (CF), apparent power (VA),
reactive power (var), power factor (PF) and phase angel (deg) by using the measuring
values for voltage, current and reactive power.
When the measured current more than 20A is input from the external input port, the
measured results can be converted to real values directly for displaying only by
inputting the calculation value for the used sensor.
When performing measurements with external PT and CT, the scaling function is very
P184623TS1381113
useful. It can convert the measured results to real values for displays directly. An
averaging function is also available when the tested signals are unstable and the
reading is difficult. This function is used to take the average of the measured results
before displaying them.
There are two methods for option: Exponential Averaging (EXP) and Arithmetic
Move Averaging (MOV).
Integrating Function
This function is used to integrate the current (A) and active power (W) to measure the
consumed quantity of electricity (Ah) and energy (Wh). In the process of integrating,
not only integral values (Ah and Wh) and integrating time (TIME) but also other
measured and calculated values are displayed.
window width in harmonic analysis state and it entirely meets a demand for IEC
61000-3-2.
The instrument can do the measuring computation of normal measuring state to have
contrast analysis when it is in the harmonic analysis state.
Communication Function
This function permits the instrument is connected with computer by CAN interface
and sends measured and computed value to computer for displaying and disposing
them.
When power for the instrument is cut, the instrument saves the set-up parameters
of users automatically and they can be called out for next start-up.
Peak Over
Peak over occurs when the sampled peak value of current or voltage exceeds 300%
(CF is 3) or 600% (CF is 6) of the measured range, the “PEAK OVER” indicator
beneath relative option keys of current or voltage range will light up for alarm and the
relative measured and computed value will be displayed as “----- ”. The
buzzer alarms continuously (when the “BELL” indicator is bright).

Other Conditions
When the window display is “-----”, it shows there is no data for reading or
the measured value of current state is meaningless because of range switch or other
reasons.
When using the scaling function or external input function and the ratio value or
calibration value being too great to be displayed in the range of display window, “-
----” will appear in display window.
Error display for every working state can be found in relative chapters in detail. The
meaning of different sound modes of buzzer can be found in section 3.1.2.

Chapter 2 wiring
Before using the instrument for the first time, make sure you have read the safety
precautions
in page 2 and page 4.
Please use the power cord supplied with the instrument which has a 3-pin
plug or use a power cord as the same specification. And assure the protective
grounding connection is connected to the ground or have special grounding
connection to
connect the instrument with ground through the grounding terminal on the
rear panel of the instrument.
The connection should far away from the instrument, do not contact.
Be sure that the signals of the object to be measured do not exceed the
maximum measuring range.
Turn ON the power when using, wait for self checking of the instrument then
provide power supply for the equipment to be measured. After measuring, cut
off the power
supply of the measured equipment at first, then turn OFF the power supply of
the instrument.
2.1 Wiring method when voltage and current are applied directly
In the diagrams below, the thick lines represent the current circuit, and the thin
lines represent the voltage circuit.
Source Load
Source Load
P184623TS1381113
In above diagrams, the current which flow through the thick wires is bigger,
so that need the wires thick enough to insure the biggest current and reduce
the consumption. Otherwise it will affect the measuring accuracy, even arise
unpredictable serious effect.
When using an external CT, make sure not let the secondary side of the CT to
go open circuit while power is supplied, otherwise an extremely dangerous
high voltage will be generated on the secondary side of the CT.
A load current flows in the thick lines shown in the diagrams; therefore, a wire
with sufficient current capacity must be used for these lines. Otherwise that will
affect the test accuracy, even cause unpredictable serious result.
Use of the scaling function enables direct reading of measured values on the
display. Please refer to section 4.2.5.
It must be noted that measured values are affected by the frequency and phase
characteristics of PT and CT.
In the diagrams below, the thick lines represent the current circuit, and the thin lines
represent the voltage circuit. The area indicated by shadow must be as small as
possible to minimize measurement error.
When using an external shunt which is resistance, do not allow the resistance
shunts go open circuit while power is supplied, otherwise an extremely
dangerous high voltage will be generated on the shunt, and connect to the

When the AUTO indicator is lit, it is in auto range state. The measuring range is
adjusted automatically according to the input voltage or current, and the
corresponding voltage and current range indicator will light up.
Range up
1. If the measured voltage or current exceeds 120% of the rated value, a higher range
will be selected.
2. A higher range is selected immediately if the instantaneous input voltage or current
exceeds approximately 300% of the rated value (or approximately 600% if the crest
factor is 6) during sampling.
Range down
A lower range is selected if the measured voltage or current drops below 30% of the
rated value.
Setting manual/auto range mode
Press the voltage or current AUTO key to toggle between manual and auto range of
the voltage or current. When the voltage or current AUTO indicator is lit, the voltage

P184623TS1381113
such as a pulse, which has a high crest factor, is input. In this case, set the range
manually.
When the range is set to Auto, the measuring range switches according to range
up/down conditions. Therefore the range may be different ever if the measured
value is same.
“-----” will be display when the range is switching.
Auto range will be canceled automatically when the measuring mode is switched to
voltage flicker measuring mode.
Power range
Power includes W, var and VA; their ranges are decided to the voltage and current
range.
