GRADE-IV (ST. MAGDALENE)
ARALING PANLIPUNAN

Objectives:
Identify the principles in teaching – learning activities and the instructional materials
being used by the teacher.

1. Give the principles of teaching used in the subject being observed.

 Care about helping the kids to the best that they can
 Be clear about what you want your students to learn
 Gradually release responsibility for learning
 Involve students in learning from each other
 Manage the student’s behavior

2. What teaching learning technique was used by the teacher?

 Interactive lecture
 Demonstrating
 Collaborating
 Inquiry-based learning

3. Describe how the principles/s was/were applied in the observed class.

Effective teachers are passionate about helping their students to learn. They form
warm and caring relationships with their students. The teacher use a kind of voice when
they speak with their students. When a student speaks on the teacher, the teacher stops
talking and listens to what the students want to tell. The teacher talk with the students
when she notice a change in the student behavior. When the students confides, the teacher
follow up (the students told the teacher that they were worried about a test in another class,
the teacher takes time to ask about how they did).Teachers collaborate and involve stu-
dents as lead learners to engage in the activities. The teacher starts their discussion with a
recap of their past lessons. Whenever the teacher is delivering instructions, she pause fre-
quently and have students write a summary of what the teacher have said in the previous 3-
5 minutes.

4. Explain how the teaching process facilitate:

4.1 COGNITION
The Grade-IV students is divided into groups and given an activity about “How to
Make an Email Account”. The members of each group had their brainstorming about the
topic. They exchange ideas about on how they are going to present their activity in front of
the class .When they’re done doing the activity they have a cheer for everybody to know
that they are already done. One of the members will present their activity in front of the
class.

4.2 META COGNITION

The Grade-IV students always asked the teacher about their yesterday’s lessons. The
students is asked by the teacher to write a poem about their childhood memories. The stu-
dents is always asking the teacher on how are they going to write a poem and where are
they going to put it. They read their own poem in front of the class.

4.3 POSITIVE MOTIVATIONAL

In every activity that they accomplished the teacher has always a positive remarks.
The group of students who presented the activity clearly in front are given higher grades.
The teacher will give them a gift as a bonus or incentives as they give their best in class.
You can see the happiness on the face of the students with high grades and the other stu-
dents got motivated from them to do more next time.

5. What instructional materials were used? Describe how they were used.
The instructional materials used by the teacher is the textbook and television. During
the lesson the teacher made a power point presentation regarding their topic for the learn-
ers to see and be able to understand deeply what is their topic all about then the teacher
and the learners used the textbook as their additional resources.

6. What assessment tool/s was/were used to measure learning? How was it

conducted?
The teacher group the learners into five then the instruction for each group is each
member of the group should make an email account. All of their individual answers will be
written on a piece of Manila paper then, one of the member of the group will present their
group work in front of the class. Formative assessment is the kind of assessment used by
the teacher.

7. What do you think is the importance of using a varied a) methods and

strategies, b) instructional materials, c) assessment tools in teaching?
According to what I observed, the teacher used varied methods and strategies to at-
tain the objectives effectively, instructional materials to support the methods and strategies
in attaining the objectives and assessment tools to know the effectiveness of the methods
and strategies and to know whether the objective is attained or not.
(a) Teaching methods are an important aspect of teaching and learning, it deter-
mine the activities of teachers and students, the quality of the teaching process, implicitly
sending a message about what teaching is, how children learn, and what is knowledge?
Probably, there is a lot of teaching methods which can be used by teachers. First, you need
a proper teaching method. However, the focus should not be only in teaching, but also in
students learning. This means that teachers should adapt themselves in order to achieve
both the teaching goals and the learning goals. To check whether students have met the
learning objectives, carry out an evaluation is needed. Then, one of the main issues that
teachers must deal with is the evaluation system. Evaluation is often biased, that is, it is af-
fected by subjective circumstances. So the evaluation system used, becomes especially im-
portant. These findings open up a different insight into the understanding of teaching
methods and their impact on the quality of teaching. Analysis method of application of
teaching methods in the context of the teaching process can lead to a deeper understanding
of the quality of students' knowledge, the work of teachers, etc. and understanding of the
educational function of the method in the present context. Probably, there is a lot of teach-
ing methods which can be used by teachers.
(b) Instructional materials are tools used for making lessons easier and more effec-
tive. It is a resource that will used by the teachers for convey instructions. That will created
by number of teachers and experts of educational system. So it is best reference for every
teacher. And instructional materials help to create a good teacher. It can provide a high de-
gree of interest for a learner. It gives continuity for learning and also presenting various
learning theories. Without the right materials, you would have no educational content.
Without content, you have no learning. In other words, the instructional materials are very
important. They are what can make or break a course. The materials combined with the
teacher can have a huge impact on students and their understanding.
(c) Assessments check whether your goals meet the instructional needs. Assessments
in the classroom are something necessary, because a lot of teachers partially develop their
own instruction. Assessment in classroom is really important. With the different kinds of
assessment, the teacher is able to evaluate in an ongoing process with the aim to provide
feedback for developing better instruction.
Reflection:
The lesson I have learned from my observation on the classroom application of the
principles of learning is that for a teacher to be effective, one first thing to do is to get the
learners attention. Being an effective and efficient teacher is not an easy task, it comes with
a great responsibility which requires patience, passion and love. As I conduct my classroom
observation, I observed that the teacher used various principles in teaching that caters not
only the intellectual but also the emotional aspect of the learners. I also observed that in
every principle that the teacher used she relates it to the personal experiences of the stu-
dents and to their multiple intelligences and individual differences, so that she will be able
to catch their attention and interest, and at the same time she can give them educational
needs. Other than that, make the students feel that learning is a must most especially on the
part of the learners. Always motivate them to learn and pursue their studies and never eas-
ily give-up until they reach whatever their goals in life.

Reflection:

The class that have given to me in this part of learning was the class of Ms.
Marybeth Secreto. The teacher has this confidence which I really admire due to her
professional attitude inside the class. She indeed give the lesson in a very detailed man-
ner and set examples to give the students a more concrete idea on the subject matter.
As I observed this session of class, I did realize how important it is for a teacher
to enrich her instructional material as an additional learning to students. In having a
complicated subject, one need to find an alternative that could let the learners learn
the lesson in a manner that they could conveniently do the learning at their own pace.
This probably could be enhancing one’s instructional matter or this could be through
giving them an additional easier task for them to evaluate more on their learning be-
cause not all learners have the same level of learning as others would do. As a teacher
to be, I indeed realize how important to match your objective to the assessment that
will be given to your student that is written in the lesson plan.

lesson. It is applicable to teaching as it develop the skills of the learners.
Reflections.

Write your thoughts and feelings with regard to your observations A and B.
Comment on the materials used.

I have really learned a lot from this semester. All the observing experiences made
me see all the important facts in being a teacher. They made me realize about a lot of things
not just in teaching but also about life. I learned to manage my time, worry about im-
portant things in life and see the teacher in me. Good teachers are full of passion, well pre-
pared for their lesson, and of course live with integrity. Aside from knowledge, teachers
must possess positive attitudes and admirable works. One sees these qualities through the
way activities are facilitated by the teacher, how the materials are organized and prepared,
and another thing is how the assessment tools are used. Dedication, hard work and punctu-
ality are also important.
We should demonstrate not just the lesson but also the process by which we learn.
All teachers must realize that part of their job is to teach their students how to learn. I’ve
learned that metacognition comes in when we focus on learning how to learn. Teachers
must also learn from their mistakes, and experiment continually with ways to improve
their strategies and teaching methods.
