Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
1
BATANG KN S.I.K.A.T
This study aimed to find out the experiences of Senior High Students of Koronadal
National Comprehensive High School Senior High School (KNCHS-SHS) in buying
foods in the canteen. Specifically, this study sought to answer the following
questions:
2. What are the struggles they faced when they buy food in the canteen?
It is important to the researchers that they gave an exact information to the readers
of this research. It is also important for the readers to know the different effects of having
a high food prices in canteens. We are also student, we are affected with this specific
problem in our school. The researchers inform the KNCHS-SHS student that having a
high food price will have a big effect to students.
The researches anticipated that the study would be beneficial to the following:
For the Students, most especially the Senior High School students of KNCHS-
SHS, this study would be an instrument to students who are saving their allowances to
think other practical choices in choosing their food to eat.
For the Parents, this research would be a great source of information for parents
to know the struggle of their children about prices of foods in KNCHS-SHS canteens and
also to help them to think other better solution to solve the problem.
For the Teachers and school administrators, this research will help them provide
information to know, what is the effect of the growing prices in the canteen? and also help
them to think other solution to solve the problem.

For the Future Researchers will serve as a guide related to their studies.
This research aimed to know the struggles, ways on how to overcome the
struggles of KNCHS-SHS students who are affected with the food increase in the
canteen. The participants will be the KNCHS SHS students. The data was gathered in a
form of interview.

Chapter II
This chapter provides the discussion of related literature that has a importance on
the concerns of the study. Piece of literature and documents were reviewed and scan to
provide necessary framework for this study.

in fees and this will just add to their poverty. “They just cannot afford the prices that the
canteen is charging.” As a result, the union has launched a petition calling for prices to
be reduced and has so far received more than 400 signatures. It is also encouraging
students to boycott the canteen by bringing their own lunches. Mahdi Abuka, a television
production student, said: “The prices are really high in the canteen. We are students, so

we don’t have that much money to spend. “I go and buy food elsewhere, because it is too
expensive on campus. “I only buy food here when I have to.” Pro Vice-Chancellor Warren
Forsyth, from Middlesex University's estates and facilities management service, said: "We
meet with the Students Union regularly and acted on recent feedback by introducing a
greater choice of offers and a new lower price range of sandwiches starting at £1(P24.64).
“This was implemented immediately after calls for cheaper options. "We're aware that the
cost of food is important to students, so regularly compare prices at our campus bars and
catering facilities with other London universities and similar local establishments to ensure
prices are competitive and fair. "Student satisfaction is a core priority and we continue to
keep the dialogue open with our students, including acting on feedback from a university-
wide survey into our catering, which launched in March and comes to a close at the end
of April". ( Innes, 2012).
We, senior high students often skip breakfast to catch up with the 7 am early class
thus resulting in lack of appetite and energy to proceed to the day. This is why most
students depend on the food selection at the canteen, yet we're faced with expensive
prices on meals that aren't usually that expensive when compared to the food and drinks
outside the campus.
This is why we want to start a petition to lower the prices at the KNCHS Canteen
for we believe it's important that we get nutritious yet inexpensive food.

Due to the price hikes, the number of students who buy from the school canteen
is dramatically decreasing. This is mainly because students will refuse to buy expensive
foods from the canteen, but would rather bring their own recess and lunch. As a result of
limited students buying from the school canteen, the income that the canteen workers
receive will be reduced, causing financial strains for canteen workers, as they need the
money for living. (Abouharb, 2016)
In this generation one of the biggest problems to students and to other people is
stress. Stress is a state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life, work,
school, etc. Having over price food in the canteen can cause stress. It can trigger stress
because some student is saving their money for school requirements, activities, projects,
and other personal expenses in this case some students force to buy food even though
it’s against to their will.
The standard food price in some canteens are high for example in the KNCHS
SHS canteen, the price is atleast 20 pesos and above unlike JUNIOR HIGSCHOOL
canteen, the price there is 5 pesos and above and it is more affordable compared to
KNCHS SHS canteen.
Definition of terms
Canteen
6
BATANG KN S.I.K.A.T
- canteen is a great place to promote an enjoyment of healthy eating. For students who
use the canteen regularly, the food purchased makes a significant contribution to their
total food intake and nutrition; therefore it makes sense to ensure the best food possible
is available to enhance their ability to learn and take in the information presented to
them in class (Jobs, 2013).
Experience
Financial
- the study of how money is managed and the actual process of acquiring needed funds.
It encompasses the oversight, creation and study of money, banking, credit, investments,
assets and liabilities (Seth, 2018).
Food prices
- Food prices refer to the average price of particular food commodities globally and across
countries (Roser & Ritchie, 2015).
Practical
- concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas
(Frampton, 2016).
Petition
- A formal written request, typically one signed by many people, appealing to authority
with respect to a particular cause (Robertson, 2014).

BATANG KN S.I.K.A.T
This chapter represents the locale of the study, respondents of the study and the
research instrument for data analysis.
Research Design
The participants of the study were the Senior High School, specifically the Grade
11 and 12 students of KNCHS.
Research instruments
The researchers used the method of interviewing the students in the senior high
school ground by asking them questions in personal related to the study. First, the
researchers prepare the instruments for conducting this research. Then the researchers
collected the data to the students about their experiences according to the question we
asked. After that the researchers translate the answers of the respondents.
