PROSPECTUS

INTRODUCTION

World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) was established
to recognize and award Martial Artists life-long dedication, accomplishment and
learning study in the field of Martial Arts, Philosophy and Science. World Academy of
Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) will award the Bachelor, Masters,
Doctorate and Professorship Degrees on ‘Life Experience’.

World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) will recognize
martial artists from all over the world for their life-long dedication and
accomplishment in the field of martial arts / science studies whereby offering martial
arts degrees program.

The Martial Arts external degree programs of The World Academy of Martial
Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) are design for full-time martial artist
or working professional. Unique in its approach, WAMAPS seek to integrate
Eastern and Western thought in its degree programs.

Each of The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS)
programs is an external degree course of study. This means that students do not
have to physically attend classes at the Academy. Students set their own goals and
complete courses requirements in the convenience of their homes, offices or
personal study areas. Completed coursework is submitted to WAMAPS. The
Academy encourage students to make use of the independent study program to
design their own course of study, incorporating their own personal goals and
experiences into the degree program.

The WAMAPS Council of Education in Martial Arts Philosophy and Science grants
different degrees under its own authority to develop its own accreditation
system and curriculum. The degrees are based upon these requirements. Our
Degree Programs offer Bachelor, Master and Doctorate. These degrees are not to
be confused with traditional Academic degrees. It is to show professional status
within the Martial Arts Community.

WAMAPS welcome enrolment of all those who demonstrate a sincere commitment to


completing their postsecondary education in martial arts in the unique setting that
WAMAPS provides. World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science
(WAMAPS) does not discriminate on basis of race, colour, national origin, religion,
sex or handicap in any of its policies, procedures or practices.

DEGREE REQUIREMENT

Bachelor of Arts

The total number of units required for Bachelor of Arts degree is 120. Lower division
requirements consist of 60 units of general education credit. Lower division
requirements may be earned through external general studies thematic courses at
The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) or by
transfer credit for an Associate Arts or Science degree.

A full time Martial Art instructor of any style/system with the rank of 2nd
Dan/Degree black belt to 3rd Dan/Degree black belt with 6-9 years active
training will also be consider for the Bachelor of Arts Degree.

The upper division requirements consist of an additional 60 units of credit plus


completion of a written paper (thesis) on approved topic relating to some aspect of
martial arts.

The Bachelor of Arts external degree program is designed for full-time martial artist
or working professional. The upper division program (60 units) of the Bachelor of Arts
degree at the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS)
may be completed in one year or more.

Bachelor Degree in Asian Martial Arts History

Master of Arts

Candidate must have a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, or equivalent


(not necessarily from the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science) to
qualify for admission into the Masters program. The total number of units required for
the Master of Arts degree is 30 upper division units plus completion of a written
Masters thesis (10 units) on an approved topic.

A full time Martial Art instructor of any style/system with the rank of 4th
Dan/Degree black belt to 6th Dan/Degree Black Belt with 10-19 years active
training will also be consider for the Master of Arts Degree.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph D. M.A.)

Candidates for admission to the doctoral degree program must have a Master of Art
or Master of Science or the equivalent (not necessary from World Academy of Martial
Arts Philosophy and Science) to qualify for admission into the Ph. D. program. The
total number of units required for the Doctor of Philosophy degree is 30 upper
division units in addition to the written preparation and oral defence of an original
doctoral thesis (10 units) in approved subject area.

A full time Martial Art Master/ Grandmaster of any style/system with the rank of
7th Dan/Degree to 9th Dan/Degree black belts with 20 more years active training
will also be consider for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree.

The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) award to
prominent figures in World Martial Arts:-

*Professorship in Martial Arts (PMA)

*Doctor of Philosophy in Martial Arts (Honoris Causa)

WAMAPS act as an independent Martial Arts governing issuing body with its own
accreditation system. It is perfectly proper to award degrees to those individuals for
their hard-earned life experience in martial arts and science.

Each recipient of the title, Doctor or Professor in Martial Arts is designated as a fellow
of the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS). These
individuals are listed in WAMAPS Registry of Doctor and Professor of Philosophy in
Martial Arts Science. WAMAPS grants degrees under our own authority.

WAMAPS offer Doctorates and Professorships only in Asian Martial Arts & Science
studies. The Ph D.MA degree is exclusively presented to Martial Artists who meet
more than 25 years minimum or more in the field of martial arts. It is expected that
our degree holders will not rely on these degrees to obtain employment, but only for
professional status within the Martial Arts community.

WAMAPS degrees will be awarded to Martial Artists who seek further Martial Arts
education to improve their qualifications, and who have demonstrated outstanding
results in their field of expertise.

This award is based on the recipient’s knowledge, continuous study and his full
dedication to martial arts. So we award the certificates with Honour, Dignity and
Honesty for all your efforts in helping our fellow human being to harmonies their
bodies, minds and spirits as well.

Doctrine

WAMAPS is an independent education institution. Our curriculum is designed for


those seeking professional recognition, certification and licensing within the martial
arts world. The purpose is to help its students unlock their minds, to find the keys to
success through martial arts and through self-discovery

Experiential Education Credits for Martial Arts Training or Other Life
Achievements

Another unique aspect of the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science
(WAMAPS) degree program is the recognition of experiential education credit toward
the completion of any WAMAPS external degree. World Academy of Martial Arts
Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) appreciate the dedication it takes to become a
competent, ranking martial artist. Thus, credit toward graduation is granted for past
martial arts experience (including training, competition or formal coursework) as well
as for relevant work experience. Experiential education credits may be applied
toward any of the degree program at WAMAPS. The awarding of college level credit
in semester units for previous martial arts work or study experience is called
experiential education credit. The Admission Committee makes all decisions
concerning the granting or denial of experiential education credits in each individual
case.

Black belt Instructor / Master/ Grandmaster may receive up to sixty (60) units of
upper division credit for their years of study in the martial arts.

Experiential education credits for first to third degree black belt may be used
towards the requirements for the Bachelors of Arts Degree. Fourth to sixth
degree black belt holder may use their martial arts training for experiential
education credits toward the Masters of Arts Degree. Seventh to Ninth degree
blackbelt for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree.

If experiential education credits for first degree black belt skill have not been used for
Bachelors degree from the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science
(WAMAPS), they may be applied towards a Masters or Doctoral degree: however,
experiential education credits can only be used once toward any degree from the
World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS).

The WAMAPS Degree Program was designed for martial artists, who desire degree
qualification for their years of dedication and hard training, which corresponds to
those obtainable through every other field of study. For recognize and establish a
standard by which professional martial artists may receive formal recognition for
having devoted their lives to continuing education, personal growth, and maintaining
the standard of excellence in the task of educating the next generation of students
and potential instructors.

WAMAPS program is for those Martial Artists who’ve spent a lifetime studying Martial
Arts. Many Martial Artists have had the opportunities to earn Degrees from traditional
colleges with traditional methods. However, many martial artist have not had enough
time or resources to finish traditional academic school as they work full time and
teach full time. After many years of involvement in the Martial Arts world certainly
qualifying many of these martial artist to deserve these degrees.

World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) will recognize
martial artists from all over the world for their life-long dedication and
accomplishment in the field of martial arts / science studies whereby offering martial
arts degrees program.

Selection of Candidates

Admission to the World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS)
is based on evidence of a student’s ability to benefit from educational program. Such
evidence may include any or all of the following: the student’s academic records at
other institutions, motivation, educational objectives and relevant work experience.

World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) will evaluate the
candidates based on their knowledge, qualification and life experience. Upon
completion of the martial arts program, successful and qualified candidates will be
conferred with the appropriate degrees.

The Records Office receives and processes all applications, evaluates transcripts
and make all decisions regarding transfer credit. The decision to accept or reject an
applicant is made by the Admissions Committee.

Once a completed application form for admission, and an application fee and all
official transcripts and any other requested documents are received and evaluated by
the Records Office, a letter of acceptance, or rejection is issued to the applicant.
Upon acceptance, an evaluation in the form of either a Certificate of Admission and
Evaluation, a Certificate of Readmission and Re-evaluation, or a Report of
Graduation Requirements constitutes official notification to the student of the course
of study required to complete the selected degree program.

No diploma or transcripts from World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and


Science (WAMAPS) will be issued until all fees and tuition are paid in full.

Registration

Applicants accepted for admission must complete all registration requirements prior
to starting coursework. Students may register for all courses within degree program
at once.
Upon registration, a student number will be assigned. Students should include this
number on all correspondence.

Transcripts and Transfer Credit

Students seeking admission must arrange for official transcripts to be sent directly to
The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science from each institution,
vocational school, college or university previously attended. Transcript from foreign
institutions must be officially translated into the English language.

Foreign (International) Students

Transcript from institution of higher education that English is not their first language
may require a credit recommendation by a recognized evaluation service selected by
WAMAPS. Any required fees such an evaluation will be the responsibility of the
applicant. A foreign transcript application fee is required of all Non English speaking
foreign (international) students submitting transcripts of previous college level work
from foreign institutions.

Minimum Credit Requirement

All degree candidates must satisfactorily complete a minimum of thirty (30) units of
course study or receive at least 30 units of experiential education credits through The
World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) in order to
graduate.

Grading

All courses are graded credit/no credit.

BACHELOR OF ARTS CURRICULUM

Lower Division General Education Requirements

The general education requirements are 60 semester units of lower division study at
The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) or 60 units
of transfer credit from previous college/university course work, vocational schooling
or paraprofessional college level programs or the equivalent. Students may use any
combination of the above to satisfy the general education requirement to total 60
units of lower division college level coursework.

Students who choose to satisfy part or all of their general studies lower division
requirements by completing coursework through World Academy of Martial Arts
Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) work with the faculty member to set up an
individualized course of study in an acceptable student’s geographical location can
be incorporated into such studies. Each individualized program is monitored and
evaluated by means of correspondence assignments via e-mail and/or examinations
prepared by the faculty member who is assigned the student in creating his or her
particular course of study.

All lower divison coursework through The World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy
and Science (WAMAPS) is external – no attendance at World Academy of Martial
Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS) is necessary.

Transfer Students

The lower division general studies requirement may be satisfied by previous


vocational schooling (including sports, fitness, health and paraprofessional college
level programs), college or university coursework totalling 60 units or completion of
the degree requirements for an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree
from community college. World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science
(WAMAPS) will honour the grading and repeat practices of other institutions for
coursework taken at those institutions.

GMA 101 General Studies Thematic (up to 60)

Satisfies lower division requirements through individualized programs of study under


supervision of an assigned faculty member.

BMA 101 Beginning Martial Arts (5 to 20)


An introduction to the martial arts through local martial arts school offering instruction
to beginning students in martial arts belief and practices.

IMA 201 Intermediate Martial Arts (5 to 20)


Intermediate level martial arts training through martial arts schools. Credit for the
class depends on earning certificates of rank in the martial arts.

AMA 201 Advanced Martial Arts (5 to 20)


Advanced level martial arts training through local martial arts school leading to black
belt levels, or the equivalent

SMA 303 Special Topics (5 to 20)


Assigned topics in the martial arts.

HAP 205 Anatomy and Physiology of the Human Body (5)


The study of the structure and mechanisms of cells, tissue, organs and major organ
systems of the human body.

HPE 302 Physiology of Exercise (5)


The study of respiratory, circulatory and neuromuscular reaction of the body to
physical exercise.

HKE 301 Kinesiology (5)


A study of the mechanical principles of human motion.

HS 100 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (5)


The possession of valid CPR card is a requirement for graduation from WAMAPS.
Study is independent taken through NGO such as The Red Cross, St John
Ambulance, Heart Associations or other agency and is designed to lead to the basic
cardiopulmonary resuscitation card from the local agency. WAMAPS feels that it is
every graduate responsibility to know how to admire CPR.

MAP 250 Martial Arts Practicum (unit vary)


The physical and mental study and performance of specific martial arts techniques
leading to rank recognition.

MAE 201 Advanced Martial Arts Experience (unit vary)


Achievement of competition proficiency.

MAS 305 Independent Study (5 to 30)
Independent research on an approved topic documented by preparation and
presentation of a written thesis.

MAT 310 Thesis (10)


Preparation of a written thesis on an approved topic.
POSTGRADUATE CURRICULUM

MAS 400 Masters Study (30)


Independent research on approved topic documented by preparation and written
thesis or audiovisual production.

MAT 401 Masters Degree Thesis (10)


Preparation of a written thesis on an approved topic.

MAS 500 Doctoral Study (30)


Independent research on an approved topics documented by preparation and
presentation of written thesis or audiovisual production

MAT 501 Doctoral Thesis (10)


Preparation of an original written thesis on an approved topic.

Faculty

The faculty of External Degree Program is drawn primarily from the resident faculty of
World Academy of Martial Arts Philosophy and Science (WAMAPS). Faculty
members of other institutions of comparable rank, along with specialists in
professional fields, also serve on the External Degree Program’s teaching staff.

Grade Reports and Transcripts

Each student completing an external course program will receive an official grade
report mailed to the address on his or her registration form. A student may request an
official transcript to be issued at any time by sending request for a transcript along
with transcript fee.
