White Paper - Cascade Header Changes To Line in R121
Prior to this new R12.1 enhancement however this feature was restricted to the standard Sales Order and
Quick Sales Orders forms whereby only a single order could be manipulated at a time. Now in R12.1 this
cascading feature can be triggered on multiple sales orders through the usage of the standard Mass
Change feature.
Any header-level attribute that can be fairly changed across multiple sales orders using the Mass Change
feature can now similarly be cascaded to the corresponding line-level attributes.
If you change a value at the order header level for multiple orders and if the field value can be cascaded
to the order lines, then depending on the value of the personal profile option OM: Sales Order Form:
Cascade Header Changes to Line the value will be updated on the order lines as well.
• Setup, and
• Worked Examples
Setup
1) Ensure your desired header attribute is “enabled” for cascading
In previous releases, the number of attributes that cascaded to the lines on update were limited. The
cascading feature introduced in the current release expands on the number of attributes that may be
cascaded to the order lines if required and can be determined at set up. Cascading will occur for
either all or none of the lines. If there is an update failure for one line, then the cascade processing
will fail for the other lines. For example, if there is a processing constraint in place at the line level
that restricts update and that attribute is updated at the header, which subsequently fails for the line,
cascading will fail for all other lines.
• Automatic
• Askme
• Manual
Definitions
Automatic - the system will cascade the header attributes to lines whenever a header attribute is
cascaded.
Manual - you will need to manually change the values on the lines as the changes from header to
lines are not cascaded.
Worked Examples
To re-inforce this new feature we shall progress with worked examples of both the legacy
11.5.10 functionality, highlighting the restriction of this capability when using the Mass Change feature,
together with a parallel example in R12.1 reflecting this new broadening of header/line level the
cascading.
Release 11.5.10
NOTE: as previously advised 11.5.10 header attributes enabled for cascading are predetermined/fixed. In
this release you are unable to configure the enablement of header attributes for cascading. Hence, the
FRM-40301: no records retrieved message.
B. Set your desired value for the “OM: Sales Order Form: Cascade Header Lines” profile option.
Remember available values are detailed below. In this instance I’m configuring EBS to prompt me as
to whether I desire the header attribute to be cascaded during a Mass Change event.
• Automatic - the system will cascade the header attributes to lines whenever a
header attribute is cascaded.
• Askme - you have a choice to cascade or not.
• Manual - you will need to manually change the values on the lines as the changes from header
to lines are not cascaded.
C. Now, let’s query up TWO(2) example Sales Orders in the Order Organizer. Take particular note
of the currently assigned values for the header and line-level Salesperson attributes – as detailed
below in the next two screen-shots.
D. We are now ready to attempt a mass change of the header-level Salesperson attribute.
Having the “Summary” (header-level) tab page activated multi-select your desired orders **. Once done
select “Tools -> Mass Change” from the menu. Assign your newly desired Salesperson in the available
field and select “Ok”.
The below screen-shot verifies a new Salesperson (H, Mr. Ti) is requesting to be assigned to the
header/lines of the two selected Sales Orders.
** To multi-select order header, activate the first order/record, then hold down your Shift (SHIFT) button
and then subsequently clicking on each additional desired order/record.
E. Result: The header-level Salesperson attribute has changed as requested (for both Sales Orders),
HOWEVER, the associated line entities have NOT had their Salesperson attributes changed !!
This is as expected. In 11.5.10 when mass changing sales orders, header attributes are NEVER cascaded
to lines, irrespective of the OM: Sales Order Form: Cascade Header Lines profile option. Cascading of
header attributes is not an enabled feature when Mass Changing in 11.5.10.
(NEW) Release 12.1
Let us now progress through the exact same test case scenario this time in the new R12.1 environment for
comparative purposes and a reflection of the new mass change cascading feature in R12.1.
A. Ensure the desired (Salesperson) header attribute is enabled for cascading.
B. Set your desired value for the “OM: Sales Order Form: Cascade Header Lines” profile option. As
previously I’m configuring EBS to prompt me as to whether I desire the header attribute to be
cascaded during a Mass Change event.
C. Again, lets query up TWO(2) example Sales Orders in the Order Organizer. Take note of the
currently assigned values for the header and line-level Salesperson attributes – as detailed below
in the next two screen-shots.
D. Now, invoke the Mass Change, specifying the new header-level Salesperson attribute value.
On multi-selecting your two order headers, select “Tools -> Mass Change” from the menu.
Assign your newly desired Salesperson in the available field and hit the “Yes” button. NOTE: as opposed
to the 11.5.10 example you are now asked as to whether you’d like to cascade your changes to the
associated lines.
The below screen-shot verifies a new Salesperson (Fi, Mr. J) is requesting to be assigned to the
header/lines of the two selected Sales Orders.
E. Result: Header-level changes have now been CASCADED to the line-level Salesperson attribute
values !!
This is as expected. In R12.1 when mass changing sales orders, header attribute changes are cascaded to
“enabled” attributes dependent on the “OM: Sales Order Form: Cascade Header Lines” profile option
value.
