TRAINING DESIGN

I. Title: IN-SERVICE TRAINING ON THE K-12 CRITICAL CONTENT AND

PEDAGOGIES in TEACHING MATHEMATICS FOR GRADE IV MATH
TEACHERS

II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE:

In-service training act as a catalyst for teacher's effectiveness. It is also a way of

updating teachers' skills and knowledge for improving teaching and learning which lead to
better job performance. In-service training is important for teachers to face new challenges and
changes in the education world.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has been consistent in updating the knowlwdge
and skills of teachers when it comes to basic education. In-service trainings in the different
learning areas were conducted to capacitate teachers so that teaching and learning process can
yield to better outcomes. If teachers are knowledgeable, performance of learners are also
expected to improve.

Research has shown that most elementary teachers are Generalists, which means that they
have no specific area of specialization.. All learning areas were being taught by the teachers. So,
sometimes, lack of knowledge in the subject matter specifically in Mathematics is evident. This
scenario results in failure to achieve the desired learning outcomes.

In this regard, this In-Service Training was conceptualized to help the teachers on the
critical content and pedagogies in Mathematics.

III. TRAINING OBJECTIVES:

1. To enhance the knowledge of Grade 4 Math teachers with regards on the critical
content and pedagogies in teaching Mathematics.
