Dasmariñas has 74 barangay
According to Agustin de la Cavada in his Geografica, Geologica y Estadistica de Filipinas, this town started as a
barrio of Imus and it was made into an independent municipality in 1867. The Spanish government named the
town of Perez Dasmariñas in honor of Don Perez Dasmariñas who was the Governor General of the Islands from
1590 to 1593. Chinese oarsmen whom he had hired murdered him. His son, Don Luis Perez Dasmariñas also lost
his life in the hands of the Chinese in 1603. Don Gomez Dasmariñas was well remembered because he was the
one who ordered complete fortification of Intramuros and the construction of Fort Santiago.
Dasmariñas was a barrio of Imus town until it was declared a town on May 12,1864. After 145 years of being a
municipality, it was declared a city on November 26, 2009.
Dasmariñas City was known to be the wealthiest local government unit in the province of Cavite according to
the 2006 Commission on Audit report. It was also the only municipality in the entire Philippines that had both
SM and Robinsons Mall, before it became a city.
The city has a total population of 575,817 according to the 2010 census population.

PARU-PARO FESTIVAL
This populous and progressive city is celebrating its founding anniversary on November 26 with the
staging of the “Paru-Paro” or Butterfly Festival.
Aside from the founding anniversary and city-hood celebration, the Paru-Paro Festival also goes with
the city celebrations of the feast day of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 and Christmas. For
this city, the colorful “paru-paro (butterfly)” is a universal symbol of change, transformation and
celebration.
The Immaculate Conception Parish Church- also known as the Dasmariñas Church, is the first Catholic
parish church in the city of Dasmariñas, province of Cavite, Philippines. The stone church was
constructed right after the establishment of Dasmariñas as a separate parish in 1866
