Improvising in CM Blues
When you start out, start out slowly. You can just play the root of each chord and improvise over that. Or you
can improvise over a song. I highly recommend improvising over Melody Gardot’s “Your Heart Is as black as
night” which works beautifully with a C minor Blues improvisation.
This, for me, was a great start to learning to improvise, and has helped me unlock the full width of the piano. Best
of luck with it, and I hope you get hours of enjoyment as you discover your improvisational chops.
