Discussion:

Why the Aniline point gives an indication of the composition of

the sample?
Aniline point gives an indication of aromatic content in the
sample, indicates the degree of aromaticity of the fraction. since
aniline is an aromatic compound which is dissolved on heating
by the aromatics in the oil. The higher the aniline point the lower
the aromatic content and the higher paraffinic content. In general
oils with a high aromatic content are more detrimental to rubber
products than those with a low aromatic content. The relative
aromatic content of an oil is indicated by its aniline point and oils
with a high aromatic content have a low aniline point and vice
versa. The higher the aniline point of the oil, the more desirable.

What is the significance of the Aniline point test?

It is the measure of an aromatic content of the oil. It is the
characteristic property of diesel. Aniline being an aromatic
compound freely mixes with aromatics, so a low aniline point
indicates a low diesel index, higher aniline point causes increase
in cetane number hence making the oil suitable for use in diesel
engine. It is useful in expressing the quality of diesel oil by use
of the diesel index. Aniline point also predicts the amount of
carbon present in the aromatics, Aniline point of an oil gives an
indication of the possible deterioration of rubber sealing.
What are the advantages of API value?
The API (American Petroleum Institute) gravity is an
alternative value for comparing the densities of different
petroleum products, the API is used to classify sample as light,
medium, heavy, extra heavy, by determining the API value of a
sample we will get the most important properties of sample so we
will know how heavy or light our samples are, so the more API
gravity shows us our sample contain more light components,
short carbon chain such us light products like Gasoline, we have
to know all properties of our sample before refining. Refining
crude oil leads to products like gasoline, diesel fuel or lubricating
oils. Petroleum products are complex mixtures of various
hydrocarbons, characterized through their physical propert
