About the Department of Education


The Department of Education is responsible for national policies and programs for; early childhood
education, school education, post-school skills training and higher education, international education and
academic research.
About the position
With general direction, the Senior Advisor works to established policies and procedures to provide office
management, policy and program advice that advances education programs in the region.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
 Provide professional policy advice to stakeholders on the higher education sector in India, with a focus
on analysing opportunities and reporting on outcomes of collaboration in relation to student mobility.
 Perform objective and systematic research and analysis and present accurate conclusions on policy
developments of the Indian Government Senior Adviser.
 Monitor, analyse and report on new activity developments, identifying policy initiatives and
opportunities for greater Australia-India Education and research engagement.
 Develop implementation plans and deliver assigned programs accurately and within budget including
preparing input for new program proposals and identifying opportunities for new engagement.
 Produce a range of high quality written materials and policy advice including briefing, correspondence,
proposals, presentations, speeches and minutes to inform activity progress, emerging issues and key
risks.
 Support the preparation and delivery of other Education programs as required.
 Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on policy, project or operational issues.
 Manage the Education in New Delhi social media accounts and prepare reports as directed.
 Build and maintain relationships across a broad range of regional stakeholders, including community
organisations, senior and middle management, government officials, private sector representatives,
international and regional organisations.
 Evaluate invitations and opportunities for public engagement and make recommendations on content
and participation based on suitability and opportunities to advance the objectives of the Australian
Government.
 Contribute to the successful management of the Education office in New Delhi including coordinating
service provision and maintenance for residences and offices of Education staff in India.
 Undertake financial management tasks including processing and acquitting payments as well as
monitoring and reporting of the office budget.

 Represent Education and provide detailed advice on Australian participation at a wide range of local
events.
 Coordinate meetings and events including making logistical arrangements and preparing content for
discussion.
Qualifications/Experience
 Tertiary qualifications and at least three years’ experience in International Affairs.
 Strong written and oral English language skills.
 Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly with Excel.
 Master’s qualifications and a knowledge of Australian foreign trade and policy would be an advantage.
