RESOLUTION

CONCERNS WITH HIGHWAY 80

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council, has very specific concerns with the current State
Highway 80 which serves as the only vehicular access to Tybee Island; and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council is concerned about the continue delay in widening
Highway 80 as there is a serious public safety issue due to emergency vehicles could be delayed in
transporting those in need of urgent care off of the Island when there is heavy traffic or accidents on
Highway 80 or bridges; and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council understands the permitting process is difficult as
Highway 80 goes through the marsh raising environmental concerns; and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council is requesting that the State fast track the permitting of
the bridge replacement and causeway improvements, and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council is asking Representative Petrea to contact other local
dignitaries to share our concerns; and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council is aware of the continued delays in permitting for this
project and wishes to express its desire for our representatives in the State of Georgia to complete this
project in light of the major public safety issues that the outdated Bull River and Lazaretto Creek
Bridges and the narrowness of the Highway 80 causeway are causing for residents and visitors to Tybee,
and

WHEREAS, The Tybee Island Youth Council would like to ask Governor Kemp for a meeting about
this important issue during Savannah/Chatham Day in January 2020.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Tybee Island Youth Council ask Mayor and Council of
the City of Tybee Island to adopt this Resolution and ask Representative Jesse Petrea and Senator Ben
Watson to present this to Governor Kemp.
