    MODERNIZATION RECOMMENDATION

    QUALITROL FUEL GAUGES


    PURPOSE: To provide instructions for upgrading Qualitrol fuel gauges.

    APPLICATION: Qualitrol dial-type fuel gauges.

    REFERENCE: Instructions for case assembly replacement are included in this publication.

    DISCUSSION: Qualitrol fuel gauges are now of two-piece construction. This includes a float
    mechanism housing assembly and a removable sealed dial case assembly. The new
    design eliminates pointer lag and simplifies gauge repair for a damaged lens or pointer.
    The float mechanism housing assembly remains the same, except the pointer pin has
    been removed from the bowl of the gauge housing.

    Since the sealed dial case provides operating improvement and simplifies repair,
    universal repair kit 9095986 has been discontinued.

    In cases of repairs, EMD recommends gauges be updated to the sealed dial case. For
    your convenience, instructions, Fig. 1, are included with each replacement dial
    case assembly.

    Since the dial is now part of the sealed dial case it will be necessary to order specific dial
    case assemblies for-the gauge. The following lists qualitrol gauges affected and the
    sealed dial case assembly for each.

    1. Remove both horizontal centerline mounting screws,


    2. Remove ring, glass, gasket, pointer assembly and teflon hub.
    3. Break off pointer pin.
    4. Remove any dirt, moisture, etc. from inside flange and wipe
    with cloth.
    5. Mount indicator module to gaugeflangeaccording todirections
    on decal, using the screws removed in Step 1. Make sure all
    lettering is right side up.
    6. Discard items removed in Steps 2 and 3 in proper receptacles. 27686
