Cleanliness Habits
Cleanliness is not only related to bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, and washing hands
before dining but also participating in preventing the pollution. Pollution is harmful to public health. But
not all people especially those who live in cities care about it. We can see rubbish or wreckage the broken
part of destroyed thing in many places. As a consequence, it damages the beauty of the city, creates
water and air pollution and causes disease. The polluted dust in air will make it hard for people to
breathe and can irritate the eyes. Polluted water and air are smelly : Besides giving a bad smell, polluted
water, rivers, and drains are not nice to see.
The government urges the resident to cooperate in preventing pollution. But it is not enough. A good
resident must be aware of this problem by starting cleanliness habit at home and environment
surroundings. He should arrange his house neaty and tidily. At home he should have a rubbish
container : Cleanliness operation in the neighborhood is important. It can be held periodically, once or
twice a month.
The environment cleanliness actually depends on the people. As the number of people increases
rapidly, the pollution problem will be more and more serious. Let’s love and enjoy our home and
environment by preventing any pollution, we must make them clean and healthy. No spitting and no
littering. Cleanliness must be our habit, our motto in our days.

Last Sunday my friend and I went to Lake Kintamani in Bali. The water was
clean, the temperature was cool and there were trees surrounding the lake.
The next day we visited Tanah Lot. We took pictures of the temple. The scenery was
amazing. There was holy water beside the rocky hill and there was a hole occupied
by a big snake which was considered sacred by the local people.
On Tuesday we went to Sangeh where many wild monkeys walked freely
and climbed the trees. In the afternoon we went home.
Dear Nan,
We are having a wonderful holiday here in Gold Coast. Yesterday was great as we
went to Movie World.
When we got up in the morning it looked like rain. After a while the clouds
disappeared and it became a sunny day. We then decided to go to Movie World.
First I went to Lethal Weapon. Next I saw the Police Academy Show. After that I
had lunch as I was really hungry. Meanwhile, Mom and Kelly queued for the Batman ride.
It rained about lunchtime but soon it was fine again. We really enjoyed our holiday.
Bye-bye.

Health food is a general term applied to all kinds of foods that are considered more
healthful than the types of foods widely sold in supermarkets. For example, whole grains,
dried beans, and corn oil are health foods. A narrower classification of health food is
natural food. This term is used to distinguish between types of the same food. Fresh fruit
is a natural food, but canned fruit, with sugars and other additives, is not. The most precise
term of all and the narrowest classification within health foods is organic food, used to
describe food that has been grown on a particular kind of farm. Fruits and vegetables that
are grown in gardens treated only with organic fertilizers are organic foods. They are
neither sprayed with poisonous insecticides nor refined after harvest.
In choosing the type of food you eat, you have basically two choices:
inorganic processed foods, or organic unprocessed foods. A wise decision should include
consideration of allegations that processed foods containing chemicals are proven to be
toxic. It also states that the vitamin content is greatly reduced in processed foods.

Although gorillas look ferocious, they are really rather quiet apes. They live
in family groups in the thickest parts of the jungles.
A gorilla's feet, hands, and wrinkled face are bare and black. His fur may be short

Africa, and the long-haired gorilla lives in the cooler air in the high mountains of central
Africa.
A gorilla's arms are so long; they almost touch the ground, even when he is
standing up!
Some wild mountain gorillas weigh as much as you, your father, and your

BIRDS
Birds belong to a class of warm blooded vertebrate animals with feathers covered
bodies. Next to the mammals, birds are the most important group of land-living vertebrates.
All birds have feathers, although in some types, particularly those that cannot fly, the
normal structure of the feathers may be much modified and be downy, woolly, or straw
like. The forelimbs of birds are modified into wings. The bony part of the tail, except in the
very earliest fossil birds, is very short, and the visible tail is composed of feathers only.
The teeth are absent except in some fossil forms. As in mammals–t he only other group of
warm-blooded animal–the circulation is highly perfected so that there is no mixing of
arterial and venous blood, but the arrangement of veins and arteries by which this is
accomplished, is different in the two groups. Birds have keen hearing, although they have
no external ears. The sense of sight also is very keen, but the sense of smell is weak or
lacking, except in a few vultures and other birds.
89. From the text we can conclude that both birds and mammals have ___ .
A. backbones
B. keen sights
C. keen hearing
D. downy feathers
E. weak sense of smell
90. Which of the following is NOT possessed by birds?

Giraffes are tall and interesting animals. Male giraffes are usually about six
meters tall. Half of the giraffe's height comes from its neck, which is longer than its
legs.
A giraffe has big brown eyes which are protected by very thick lashes. Since it
lives in parts of Africa which are usually dry with a great deal of dust, the lashes are an
important source of protection. It can also cover its nostrils in order to protect its nose.
It has brown spots on tan skin and this coloring helps protect the giraffe. The giraffes
also have two short horns on its head.
Like the camel, the giraffe can go a long time without drinking water. One
source of water is the leaves which the giraffe eats from trees. Since it is so tall, the
giraffe can reach the tender !eaves at the top of a tree.
Giraffes usually live in small herds and often feed with other animals. A baby
giraffe is two meters tall at birth. It can stand up by itself within a few minutes and can run
well in about two days.
Giraffes have two methods of self protection. If something frightens an adult giraffe,
it can gallop away at about fifty kilometers per hour or stay to fight with its strong legs.

There was a traveler going to a distant town. When he reached the town it was almost
midnight. He came to an inn but he found it was locked from inside. He knocked at the door.
"Who are you?" asked a voice from inside the inn. "What do you want? The door cannot
be unlocked at such an odd hour. "
The traveler needed a rest, food and shelter. He said, "Please, innkeeper, unlock the door.
See, how cold it is outside!"
"It's a strange lock and can be opened only with a silver key," replied the innkeeper.
The traveler passed a silver coin through a slit in the door, got the door unlocked and
entered into the inn.
"I have left one of my two bags outside," said the traveler. "Will you please bring it in?"
No sooner had the innkeeper gone out than the traveler locked the door from inside.
The greedy innkeeper was now shut out. He requested the traveler to unlock the door.
"I'm helpless," replied the traveler. "It's a strange lock and can be opened only with a
silver key."
The innkeeper was obliged to push a silver coin through the slit. The traveler got back
his silver coin and unlocked the door.

With money we can buy the things that we need every day. And there are many
things that money can do.
Money is first of all a means of exchange. If you want to exchange some books that
you do not need for a shirt, you may try to find someone who needs your books and who has
the shirt that you want. But it is often hard to organize an exchange. It is easier to sell the
books and then buy the shirt that you like.
Money is also a means of measuring the value of other things. It is easier to say how
many rupiah a cow costs than to say that it has the same value as five goats. We can also
store value with money. It does not spoil as fish or fruits or vegetables do when they are
sold. The cost things, of course, may change as time goes on and money that you have today
may be less in the future. If it loses a lot of its value, money will be a bad means of storing
value. Then it will spoil as farmer’s production spoil.
Finally, money is a means for making payments. You may buy a bicycle now and pay
for it in five months, and make a payment of one-fifth on the cost every month. This is better
than buying one-fifth of a bicycle at a time and not riding it until you have bought all parts.
That is, if you have to always make your payment on time.
33. Why do we need money? The followings are the reasons, except … .
A. to make us easier to get thing we need.
B. to know the value of other things.
C. it is difficult to do a barter now.
D. money loses its value easily.
E. money does not spoil as farmer’s production.

Vehicle manufacturers should take some responsibilities for the serious air pollution
in the city by planting five trees for every motor vehicle they produce, environment experts
said.
Zulfan A Rambe, operational director of Indonesian Hazardous Materials and Waste
Research (IHWaR) Foundation told a discussion in commemoration of World Tree Day on
Nov. 21 trees must be planted to balance for the pollution the city vehicles are responsible
for.
We will propose to the city administration to oblige the automotive manufacturers to
plant five trees for each motor vehicle they produce.
“The administration should make regulations about corporate responsibilities to deal
with the pollution problem.
”Environmental technology expert Eddy Soentjahyo said motor vehicle emission has
contributed up to 70 percent of air pollution in the city, which has more than 5.5 million
motor vehicles.
Experts have said open green spaces one alternative solution to deal with air
pollution, because it reduces carbon emission by absorbing pollutants and reload source of
oxygen to clean the air.
They said trees can improve drainage by preventing soil erosion and absorbing
rainwater. “The automotive industry also has the responsibility to provide green areas as the
solution of pollution problem,” Eddy said.
Manufacturers should join together to buy land in the city where trees could be
planted, he said. Eddy also suggested property developers consider making green areas on
rooftops to absorb the sun heat.
Daud Silalahi from the University of Padjajaran in Bandung keeps losing its open
green space due to residential and industrial developments.
Some 9 percent of Jakarta’s city area is made up of “open green space”, said city
administration, but the 2007 Law on Spatial Planning stipulates a city should provide at
least 30 percent of its total size for open green space.
“What I (am) concerned (for) the most is that we have the law without
implementation procedures,” Daun said.

Conventionally, students need book, pen, eraser, drawing book, ruler, and such other
stuff. Additionally, in this multimedia era, students need more to reach their progressive
development. Students need mobile keyboard to record every presented subject easily.
First, modern schools tend to apply fast transferring knowledge because the school
needs to catch the target of curriculum. Students need extra media to cover the subject. Since
there is a laptop on every student’s desk, this method will help students to get better
understanding.
Secondly, finding an appropriate laptop is not difficult as it was. Recently there is an
online shop which provides comprehensive information. The best is that the shop has service
of online shopping.
Finally, the students just need to browse that online shop, decide which computer or
laptop they need, and then complete the transaction. After that the laptop will be delivered to
the students’ houses. That is really easy and save time and money.

Last week my friend and I were bored after three weeks of holidays, so we rode our
bikes to Smith Beach, which is only five kilometres from where I live. When we arrived at the
beach, we were surprised to see there was hardly anyone there.
After having a quick dip in the ocean, which was really cold, we realized one reason there
were not many people there. It was also quite windy. After we bought some hot chips at the take

sand. We had the wind behind us and, before we knew it, we were many miles down the beach.
Before we made the long trip back, we decided to paddle our feet in the water for a
while, and then sit down for a rest. While we were sitting on the beach, just chatting, it suddenly

RoroJonggrang
It is a story about a beautiful woman called RoroJonggrang and a giant called Bandung
Bondowoso. The giant fell in love with the woman and asked her to marry him. However, the
woman refused as she knew that the giant had killed her father.
The woman would marry the giant if he could build a thousand temples in one night. The
giant decided to fulfill her request. He asked some spirits to help build one thousand temples in
one night.
In the next morning, Bandung built only 999 temples. So, RoroJonggrang refused to marry
him. Bandung was very angry and he spelled out his magic words to complete his job.
Unfortunately, it was far from his hope. The magic words turned RoroJonggrang into a statue.
This story is one of the several well-known legends in Indonesia. You can still enjoy the statue
of RoroJonggrang in Prambanan Temple, Central Java, now.
To improve comfort and cleanliness at our school, we should add some dust bins.
When we look at classrooms, school corridors, and school yard, there are papers, mineral
water cups, straws, and napkins here and there. The condition of uncleanliness and discomfort
really hinders learning and teaching environment. Litters thrown carelessly cause disease,
especially empty plastic cups or glasses. They can be filled out with water coming from the rain.
This can be place for dengue mosquitoes to breed and spread out the dengue fever. In addition,
these rubbishes can deteriorate the scene. Well painted wall and green school yard will be
nothing if litters are scattered everywhere.
Anyway I notice that most of the students in our school have responsibilities for the school
environment. Some students put litters in the dust bins. But some do not, they just throw away
garbage. The numbers of dust bins in our schools are not enough. Therefore, more dust bins
should be put beside each of steps, outside of the classrooms, and along the corridors. Probably
one dust bin should be in every ten meters. So when students want to throw away their litters,
they can find the dust bins easily.
146. According to the writer, more dust bins … in every ten meters.
A. should be decorated
B. should be painted
C. should be placed
D. are unnecessary
E. are not required
147. What is the writer’s argument on a sufficient number of dust bins?
A. They can prevent litters.
B. They can save janitor’s energy.
C. Students are asked to clean them.
D. They make school environment neat.
E. Students can throw garbage away easily.
152. “These new features can help streamline your billing tasks, … .”
The underlined word means … .
A. idea
B. thought
C. aspect
D. phenomena
E. opinion

A shepherd boy, tending his flock not far from a village, liked to amuse himself by crying out
“Wolf! Wolf!”
His trick succeeded two or three times.
The whole village came running to his assistance, only to be laughed at for failing for his joke.
Then, one day, the wolf came for real.
The boy cried out in earnest, but his neighbors, thinking he was tricking them, ignored his
cries, and the wolf devoured the sheep.
Health food is a general term applied to all kinds of foods that are considered more healthful
than the types of foods widely sold in supermarkets. For example, whole grains, dried beans, and
corn oil are health foods. A narrower classification of health food is natural food. This term is
used to distinguish between types of the same food. Fresh fruit is a natural food, but canned
fruit, with sugars and other additives, is not. The most precise term of all and the narrowest
classification within health foods is organic food, used to describe food that has been grown on a
particular kind of farm. Fruits and vegetables that are grown in gardens treated only with organic
fertilizers are organic foods. They are neither sprayed with poisonous insecticides nor refined
after harvest.
In choosing the type of food you eat, you have basically two choices: inorganic processed
foods, or organic unprocessed foods. A wise decision should include consideration of allegations
that processed foods containing chemicals are proven to be toxic. It also states that the vitamin
content is greatly reduced in processed foods.

One day, a crow had snatched a fine piece of cheese out of a window, and flew with it into a
high tree. A fox saw this and wanted the cheese for himself.
He said, ”Oh, Crow. How beautiful your wings are! How bright your eyes! How fine your neck!
Your breast is the breast of an eagle. Your claws are the match for all beasts of the field. All of
the birds should be dumb and want only voice.”
The crow was pleased to hear all that. Chucking to think how she would surprise the fox with
the can. She opened her mouth, down dropped the cheese which the fox snapped up.

Dear Editor,
I am writing to complain about ads on TV.
There are so many ads, especially during my
favorite programs. I think they should be
stopped for a number of reasons.
First, ads are nuisance. They go on for a long
time and there are so many. Sometime the
duration for ads is longer than the program
itself.
Second, ads give a bad influence on people.
They try to encourage people to buy unhealthy
food like beers, soft drinks, candies, etc. In
other words, they make people want things they
do not really need and cannot afford.
Finally, it seems that ads play an important
role in the programs people watch. There are
lots of ads in the programs, watched by a lot of
people. Meanwhile, some programs which are
not so popular are stopped because they do not
attract enough ads, even though those
programs may be people's Favorite.
For those reasons, I think TV stations should
stop showing ads. They interrupt programs, and
have bad influence on people and they
sometimes put a stop at people's favorite
shows. I am sick of ads and now I watch movie
in the cinema.

Is it important to know what your kids are watching? Of course yes. Television can expose
things you have tried to protect them from, especially violence, pornography, consumerism, etc.
A study demonstrated that spending too much time on watching TV during the day or at
bedtime often causes bedtime disruption, stress, and short of sleep duration.
Another research found that there is a significant relationship between the amount of time
spent for watching television during adolescence and early adulthood, and the possibility of being
aggressive.
Meanwhile, many studies have identified a relationship between kids who watch TV a lot and
being inactive and overweight.
Considering some facts mentioned above, protect your children with the following tips:
1) Limit television viewing to 1-2 hours each day.
2) Do not allow your children to have a TV set in their bedrooms.
3) Review the rating of TV shows that your children watch.
4) Watch television with your children and discuss what is happening in the show.
