“Nero Decree”

Art is a manifestation of feelings, emotions, an illustration of a scene of

beauty and a depiction of a historical event. Forms of shapes and sizes can
be an art, whether it is a sculpture, painting, tattoo, photography,
choreography and the like as long as the subject is pleasing to the eyes
and is/are not illegal. Art not only given the deepest and most precious
value was also given protection and salvation in a 2014 war film called “The
Monument’s Men” directed by George Clooney.
The plot of the story came from a group of men composed of art scholars
like sculptor, painters, architect or any individual who has influence in the
world of art. These men were gathered around in able to retrieve what’s
lost and save what’s left, as the Nazi’s were stealing works of art,
destroying culture in illustration and history. It is a very interesting movie
and such an eye opener for the viewers. Aside from the movie being based
on true story, the movie narrates and creates transition among historical
scenes that occurred in the World War II however, such event was hardly
known. The idea of using film as a platform to illustrate such tremendous
and cold war is a right way of reaching a large mass of people.
On the contrary, the movie is likely an underrated film but really
knowledgeable. In terms of concept and story, the film was surely original
and authentic. A film where soldiers reclaim and rescue artifacts of
aesthetic aside from people is very unique and seldom in a vast collection
and production of movie regardless, the film being an actual historic event.
The flow of the events in the story was smooth but quite mediocre. If the
viewer is a fan of documentaries and historical film, he/she will definitely
like the film and seemingly finish the film all throughout but if the viewer do
not then the appeal of the movie would be tedious. The action scenes are
quite few and are located mostly on the further part of the film. On the other
hand, the drama are also quite implemented lightly. Thus making the story,
smooth sailing but while Germans constantly steal artworks and the men
are having the right amount of progress in seeking lead.
In addition, Clooney also added a few humour in the script, not to mention
Bill Murray, a comedian, was one of the cast. However, humor was also
taken lightly and are unnecessary, random and are quite awkward, despite
Murray being cast. For the reason that, Murray known for delivering comic
scenes doesn’t really had the chance to let loose, as well as John
Goodman.
Moreover, Cate Blanchett really aced her character as Claire Simon. Her
character Claire, is seen to be giving a helping hand to Granger with a
spice of a romantic possibility but is highly likely to be going nowhere since
Granger has a wife as mentioned in the previous scenes. Their interaction
might be in a good use but the potential of relationship development spices
up and then dissolves for no good reason.
As a whole, big ups for Clooney’s intention of making the film, it serves as a
reenactment and awakening of what once occurred in the past with the
people clueless. The casting had no problem but their background as a
character in the story and build up was given little attention. Moreover, the
script was tacky and okay. For a war film, it is more of approaching the
subject in a new interesting way. The whole concept is really interesting but
when the story was criticized bit by bit that’s when things are getting a bit
good but not quite. The film somehow lacks some elements that made it
dull and scenes that are inevitably prone to oblivion. Nonetheless, the film
holistically is authentic and adequate.
