MOET TECHNOLOGIES

HOW TO USE THE MINUS-ONE ELEMENT TECHNIQUE KIT

Collection of Soil Sample

1. Collect soil samples randomly at a
depth of 20cm from at least 35 points
(1kg/point) per hectare using a PVC
pipe or trowel.

2. Avoid taking samples at or near

carabao ponds, animal manure or near
piles of decomposing matters like rice
straws or crop residues.

Establishing the MOET Test

Materials
• 7 pots or any suitable container

• 35 kg fresh soil to be tested, preferably

wet

• Fertilizer formulation (MOET kit)

• At least 35 rice seedlings (10-12 days

old) or pre-germinated seeds
Note: Variety to be planted in the field should be the variety to be
use in the setup

1. Mix the soil samples thoroughly and

remove plant roots and other organic
debris.

2. Transfer approximately 4kg of wet soil

into each plastic pot. Keep the soil wet
during the entire plant growth.

3. Mix the fertilizer formulations

separately with the soil in each pot.
4. After mixing, wash your hands before
mixing the next pot to avoid
contamination. Label the pots with
corresponding formulations applied in
each pot such as Complete, -N, -P, -
K, -S, - Cu, and Zn.

5. Transplant at least five 12-day old

seedlings per plastic pot or sow at
least six pre-germinated seeds.

6. After 10 days, retain only the two

best growing plants per pot. Ensure
that the pots are watered and leave
with at least 2 cm deep standing
water. Never allow the soil to dry up.

7. Grow the plants up to 45 DAT. At 30

DAT, nutrient deficiencies are already
apparent.

HOW TO USE THE MINUS-ONE ELEMENT TECHNIQUE APP

Collection of Input data for MOET App

1. At 45 DAT count and record the

number of tillers with its
corresponding label.

2. If a weighing scale is available,

cut the plants at the base close
to the surface of the soils from
each pot. Weigh and record the
biomass data with its
corresponding label.
How to use the MOET App

1. Tap the MOET App Icon on your

tablet or smartphone.

2. Select your Language (“English”).

Tap “I agree to the terms and
conditions” and “Start”.

3. Select the Fertilizer Requirement

Calculator from the main menu.
4. Input the correct data such as
the previous and the variety to
plant, the average yield and fresh
weight, mode of crop
establishment and schedule of
planting. Input also the farmer’s
profile and take a picture of the
farm. Tap “Next”.

5. Input the fertilizer available in the

local market and its price. Select
tiller count or biomass weight as
preferred unit and input the
recorded data from the MOET
setup. Press “Compute Nutrient”

6. Send the information to PhilRice

via SMS.

7. Select from the four options of

the fertilization plan you want to
follow and send the selected
plan to the farmer through SMS
or save as image format.
FIELD LAY-OUT PER BRANCH STATION
(Field Experiment MOET Technologies vs. BDD Fertilizer Recommendation)

Requirement:

1. Size of the plots – at least 500m2 per treatment (plots should be measured for the
computation of fertilizer recommendation)
2. Size of bunds – at least 20cmx30cm (height and width)
3. Canal for irrigation and drainage – at least 50cm

4. Crop Cut Data

What to do:
1. From the treatment plot, measure three 5m2 plot. Select a good standing crop, no missing hills, no insect pest and disease
damage and no symptoms of nutrient deficiency.
2. Harvest all the plants from the three plots. Threshed, cleaned, weighed and get the Moisture Content using the Grain
Moisture Meter.
3. Packed 500 grams per sample for the seed quality testing.

5. Yield Component Data

What to do:
1. Select three representatives of 4 hills (2x2hills) adjacent from the crop cut plot. From the 20cmx20cm distance
between hills, 4 hills have a measurement of 0.16m2.
2. From each representative sample, count and record the number of panicles from 4 hills. Threshed the grain from all
sample hills.
3. Separate filled grains from unfilled spikelet.
4. From the filled grains, separate 1,000 grains and get the Moisture Content or oven-dried in a 70°C for 48 hours and
weighed.
