This document outlines the course objectives, outcomes, syllabus, textbooks, and references for a course on optimization of chemical processes. The course introduces optimization techniques including formulation of optimization problems, constraints, gradient and Hessian calculations, optimality conditions, and methods for single-variable, linear, and multi-variable optimization. It focuses on applying these concepts to solve two-variable optimization problems. The syllabus covers topics like convexity, linear programming, gradient descent, Newton's method, Lagrangian multipliers, and penalty functions. Example chemical engineering problems are also presented.
