Interpretations:

1. There is a negative correlation between Student/Faculty Ratio (SFR) and Alumni Giving Rate
(AGR) which means that with increase in SFR the AGR tends to decrease and with decrease
in the SFR the AGR tends to increase.
2. The trend or pattern can be understood by the value of the coefficient of correlation (r)
which comes out to be 0.74 in magnitude with a negative sign. This value lies in the range of
perfect negative correlation. So, it can be said that there is a fairly strong inverse correlation
between SFR and AGR where SFR is an independent variable and AGR is a dependent
variable.
3. The value of coefficient of determination (r2) comes out to be 0.55. This tells us that 55
percent of the variation in AGR is explained by SFR.
4. As correlation does not gives us the cause behind the relation, we can’t say the anything
about the actual cause of increase or decrease in AGR with decrease or increase in SFR from
the above coefficients.
