Grade 9 Lesson Plan

I. OBJECTIVES
a. The student can be able to restate ideas through the text they listened to.
b. Students can be able to know the use of paraphrasing.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

b. Reference: A Journey Through Anglo-American Literature Learner’s Guide
c. Materials: Speaker, Phone (for music), Manila Paper, pen marker, picture cut
outs

a. Prayer

Directions: Study the following photos. Do you know the characters in the
photos? List down all the traits common to the characters in the photos.

Answer the following questions to get to know the characters better.


1. Who among the characters you like the most? Why?
2. Do you have what it takes to be like any of them? Why do you say so?
3. Based on the characteristics and intentions, what name could be associated
with them?

a. Let the students listen to the song Hero by Mariah Carey.
b. Present their answers in front of the class.
Instruction: Listen to the song carefully. Choose at least 3 best lines for you and
write what it means to you. Write your answers on the manila paper (provided).

DISCUSSION:
Rewriting lines from songs, poems, stories, and other articles is one way of
paraphrasing.
What is Paraphrasing?
 Is often defined as putting into your own words, texts that are originally
from the author. It will make us use our own ideas as inspired by other
people’ work and it will keep us from plagiarizing other’s work.
 It is a restating of meaning of a certain passage or text.

Below are the examples of Paraphrasing taken from Harry Potter, Chronicles of
Narnia, and Lord of the Rings.

(Group Work) 5mins
Instruction: The teacher will group the class into 2. The teacher will choose a
representative to get the quotes. Each group must paraphrase the given quotes
at least 5 sentences. The first one to pass will be the winner. (timed activity)

Direction: In a ½ sheet of paper, paraphrase the first two stanzas of the song
