ELECTRICAL DESIGN ANALYSIS

PROJECT TITLE : PROPOSED TWO STOREY COMMERCIAL BUILDING

LOCATION : LOT 19B, BLOCK 15, QUEENS AVENUE,
QUEENS ROW EAST, BACOOR, CAVITE

OWNER : Mr. Rogelio L. Amistoso

SUBJECT : ELECTRICAL CALCULATION AND DESIGN ANALYSIS
In compliance to LBO – Bacoor City, Cavite

OBJECTIVE:
1. To provide design load analysis as required for verification of load schedule calculation.
2. To identify fault level at main protection for sizing of interrupting capacity of main circuit
breaker.
3. To check voltage drop to ensure good quality of power delivered to final load.
REFERENCE:
A. Philippine Electrical Code Vol. 1 – 2010 Edition
B. Proposed submitted electrical plan
PARAMETERS:
1. 5% maximum allowable voltage drop from Main power supply up to Final load
2. Main power supply : 230 Volt / 60Hz – Single Phase – 3 Wire service
3. Total floor area : 120 sq. m.

DESIGN ANALYSIS:
A. For Lighting Load :
Total floor area – 220 sm (33 watts/sm) - 7279
B. 6 small appliances load @ 600 - 3600
Total Load - 10879
C. Net Load :
2400 VA @ 100% DF - 3600
Remainder of 10879 @ 35% DF - 3807
Total Load - 7407
D. Net Load & Specific Load:
Net Load - 7407
1 SPO @ 1200 - 12000
Spare @ 8400 - 8400
Total Load - 27807
THEREFORE:
It = 27807 VA / 230 Volt
= 120.9 AMP (80% DF)
= 96.72 AMP + 25% (5)
= 97.97 AMP

FOR MAIN SERVICE FEEDER REQ. – (see section 4.30; 2.40 & 4.40 ; 1.7)
Provide : 2- 30.0 mm2 THHN – Line Wire
1-14.0 mm2 THHN – Grd Wire
FOR SERVICE EQUIPMENT RATING
Provide : 1- 100AMP MCB – 20 KAIC
230 Volt – 2 Pole
FPN No. 1 – (see section 2.20 . 1.3 (a)
For conductor & Overcurrent Protection AMP rating
FPN No. 2 – (see section 2.30, 2.3)
For minimum service entrance conductor

VOLTAGE DROP CALCULATION:

Voltage drop (VD) = I x (√R2 + X2) L/305
Whereas:
Z = √R2 + X2
Therefore:
Voltage Drop (VD) = I x Z X L/305
Where:
I- Line Current in AMP
Z- Effective Impedance for 30.0 mm2 Copper = 0.16
L- Length of wire / cable in meter / 305 m say 50/m

Voltage Drop = 97.97 x 0.16 x 100/305

= 5.14 Volt
% Voltage Drop = VD / Base Volt x 100%
= 5.14 / 230 x 100%
= 1%

Short Circuit Calculation:

Isc = V/Z
Where:
Isc = Short Circuit Current
V = Base Voltage – 230 Volt
Z = Effective Impedance for 30.0 mm2 Loader – 0.16
Therefore:
ISC = 230 Volt / 0.16
= 1437.5 AMP
Use breaker with higher interrupting capacity say 20KAIC
