Nhelka’s Siomai Stand

Have you ever craved seasoned pork covered in wonton wrappers? Well, there’s a
store that sells this dish just for you! But before we talk about this store, we should talk
about what their specialty is, that should really be obvious right about now, it’s even on
the name of the store. Siomai is said to have originated in Huhhot, Inner Mongolia,
between the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing dynasties (1644-1912) of China.

Siomai is served as a side “side dish” or a secondary product in tea houses. Like
mentioned before, Siomais are often ground pork, beef, shrimp, among others, combined
with extenders like garlic, green peas, carrots and the like which is then wrapped in
wonton wrappers. It is commonly steamed, with a popular variant being fried and
resulting in a crisp exterior. It’s so popular that almost every country in Asia sells it.

Now here in Mendez, Cavite; there is a small eatery that sells rice with different
types of viands made for every kinds of taste buds. But their specialty is siomai partnered
with rice. They sell this with a very reasonable price for only Php 40 which leaves you
with 4 pieces of Siomai with rice and soup. With every bite of their dish, the more you
will be transported back to Ancient China. I have been there myself, and I’ve been
craving their Siomais ever since. But if Siomais are not your thing, don’t forget that they
still sell different viands like Kaldereta, Adobo, and many, many more. If I was looking
for a quick and easy meal, I would recommend going to Nhelka’s Siomai Stand.
