1. READ THIS FIRST.
The maximum capacity of the PABX is 3 trunk lines and 8 extensions. Two PABXs of this kind
can be connected together in a master/slave operation, giving a total system capacity of 6 trunks
and 14 extensions. This is described in section C.
Different types of analog instrument, such as telephone sets, answering machines, telefax etc. can
be connected to the extensions.
It is recommended to use instruments using the DTMF (tone) signalling system. Instruments
using loop disconnect signals can also be used.
The PABX is intended for telephone use, and all basic functions are available:
In addition, there is a large number of special features which make the telephone system very
flexible:
• Operator mode.
• Night mode.
• Optional connection of display read-out.
• Door station, with bell and electrical lock functions.
• Alarm (internal).
• Memory for telephone numbers.
If you want to connect a telefax machine, use the feature "Faxlink". If a special outgoing line is
needed, for instance to another superior PABX, you can access each line individually. If two or
three companies or households want to share one PABX, this is possible using the "Grouping"
feature. Then internal calls are possible to all extensions, but external calls are separated.
Section A.
A 2 Installation.
The installation procedure is as follows:
The PABX extensions should be installed and tested before the trunk lines are connected.
The AC supply shall be disconnected during the installation!
Please follow the information given in fig. 1 and 2 for the installation of the extensions. The
connectors are located under the small lid. (Fig. 2). Each connector has outlet for two extensions.
6 special plugs are packed with the system, one spare. The operator station is no. 29, and the
programming station is no. 22. The programming station must be a DTMF (tone) telephone set.
Use single pair cables for each extension. Multiple cable can be used, but not for more than 10
meters in each case. See fig. 1.
Connect the AC-power. The red lamp will light up. Each extension is tested by making internal
calls. Proceed to the fault-finding on page 28 if there is any problem. If a extension is not used, it
must be switched off by programming. See the setting instructions in chapter A 3.1.
The trunk lines can be installed using multiple pair cables. Do not install the trunk lines in the
same cable as the extensions. This will reduce the capacity of the PABX to withstand surge
voltages caused by lightning.
After the extensions have been installed and tested, the trunk lines can be connected. The trunk
cable is marked with the line numbers L1 - L3. All trunk lines can be used as a selective outgoing
line, and line 3 can be used directly linked to extension 3 (faxlink). See chapter A 3.3 and C 8.5.
!! Before you put the PABX into operation, it is absolutely necessary to program the trunk
line signalling. See chapter A 3 for instructions.
The PABX should be installed close to the trunk line outlets, and close to the AC power outlet.
Please observe that optional surge protecting devices are recommended if the customer premises
are often exposed to lightning. If the outside lines are above ground level, such devices are
required. It is important that these devices are connected to ground.

Fig. 1
Fig.2
Fig. 3 describe how to connect a door bell signal and an electrical door lock to the PABX. A door
phone (DP) based on a 2-wire system can be used, and is connected to the terminals DP under the
lid. The PABX can therefore be used to control access to a building. In fig. 3 a typical interface
to existing mains powered door bell is shown. The door bell (DB) signal can be any voltage, DC
or AC between 4 and 24V. The Current capacity on the door lock switch is 1 A maximum.
Fig. 3
The door phone must be self-powered. Several types can be used, as long as the speech system is
based on standard 600 Ω two-wire technology. The Door Phone is connected to the terminals DP
in the connector K11. Please consult the factory or the nearest responsible distributor for further
information.
When an external call is put on hold during call transfer, the external party will hear a special
waiting tone. Instead of this tone, it is possible to activate a internal or external music source for
"music on hold".
The external source can be a radio tuner, or better, a CD player. The CD player can be set in
repeat mode for continuous play. Connect the line output terminals of the source to the terminals
A and B in connector K2. Do not connect any loudspeaker output terminals to the PABX!
Only a line output must be connected. When the "music on hold" facility is programmed, the
music is heard in the programming telephone set after the proper code has been entered.
The PABX will accept a Normal Closed (NC) contact as the alarm input. The two terminals F
and G in K2 must be connected to the external NC contact. The alarm mode is activated when the
contact is opened. This feature must be selected by programming. See chapter C 7.10.
The display is placed on a table, preferably at the operator´s position. Before the connection to
the PABX is done, please disconnect the AC-supply to the PABX by taking out the mains power
plug. Remove the lid. Connect the wires to E-H as described below. Each wire connects by
opening the connector. This can be done by pressing a screwdriver into the white arm. Be careful
not to short-circuit any of the wires! When the installation is completed, connect power to the
PABX. If the display is correctly installed, there will be a status picture in the display.
If the supplied cable is too short, an extension cord can be used. The length of the cable can be
maximum 100 meters.

SETTINGS:
Lines which are not used, or not connected at all, must be programmed off duty. The right type of
trunk line signalling must be programmed. See below.
If you choose not to connect extension lines to all 8 extension outlets, or if any of the telephones
are removed from the installation, you must program these extensions out of use. Lift the hand-
set of no. 22, which is the programming station, and dial:
If you later on decide to use these outlets, you can program the line back in use by selecting new
functions as described in chapter C 7.1. Extensions 22 and 29 cannot be programmed out of use.
See chapter A 3.4. for information about the feature "Local groups". See chapter B 5.3. for
information about "selective outgoing line".
◊ The line cannot be selected by dialling -0-. The code 42 must be used.
See chapter A 3.4. for information about the feature "Local groups". See chapter C 8.5. for
information about the feature "Faxlink".
If the PABX is shared by two or three companies or households, it is possible to separate the
traffic into groups of users. It is possible to dial internal calls between the groups, but
external calls are restricted to the individually defined group. If this feature is needed, it is
possible to choose the type of grouping, as shown below.(Incoming / or outgoing calls).
Example: You want to operate the PABX with two groups. One group of telephones belong to
line 1 and 2, the remaining group of telephones belong to line 3. The Extensions for
line 3 are no: 26, 27, 28. In this case it is only needed to program the group to line 3.
The other extensions will automatically belong to the remaining two lines (1 and 2):
If three groups are defined, the telephones grouped to line 2 must be programmed as well. (Code:
#*12*3* .......#). The remaining telephones which are not programmed to any group
automatically belong to line 1.
----------------
Important WARNING!
It is not allowed to define the same extension number into two different groups!
Please contact your PTT for further information. It is most important to verify the trunk line
signalling types, and program the right type of signals from the PABX. Otherwise, outgoing
dialling may malfunction. It is possible to select different types of signals individually on each
trunk line. One line can be impulse type, while the other lines can be DTMF.
# * 1 1 * a1 , a 2 , a 3 #
Example: Trunk line 2 is selective, outgoing line to a superior PBX, which requires impulse
dialling. The other lines are direct lines, which accepts DTMF. The programming
code will in this case be: #*11*010#
If the Public line can accept DTMF, DTMF signals from a telephone set will be passed directly to
the line. If a impulse type of telephone then is used, the PABX will detect the digits, and
retransmit the digit information as impulse signals.
If the Public line does not detect DTMF, the PABX will detect the DTMF signals, and re-
transmit the digit information as impulse signals.
Each trunk line can be programmed individually as two stage dialling-in. If the extension number
is known, the caller can address this extension directly, using a DTMF telephone set! After the
number is dialled, the caller will hear the internal dial-tone of the PABX, and the extension
number can be dialled. It is also possible to use a ordinary answering machine as an automatic
operator, telling the caller which internal number to use.
If the call is not answered, or if the caller waits too long before the extension number is dialled,
the PABX will start the normal ringing sequence.
# * 1 5 * a1 , a 2 , a 3 #
If –2- is used, a anwering machine must be connected to extension 24, which cannot be used for
other purposes. Please also program: # * 21 * 24 2 #.
The length of the spoken message should be kept less than 12 seconds.
A 4 CHOICE OF TELEPHONES.
The PABX will accept Impulse dialling signals as well as DTMF signals. For best possible
performance, please note the advice below.
If the telephone set is equipped with a R-button, please notice that there are two types of signals
used for register Recall: Timed break (flash), or ground. If the telephones have switchable
functions for dialling type and Recall signal type, it must be set to: DTMF dialling R=timed break.
If the set has a flash-button and no R-button, it is possible to use this as the recall signal. See the
programming instructions for Recall accept time.
If you have a telephone set with DTMF dialling without R-button or "Flash" button, it can be
used only for dialling and answering calls. The other features of the PABX cannot be used.
Impulse dialling telephone sets can be used for internal and external calls. It can also be used to
transfer incoming calls, as the digit -1- is used as a recall button. The other features of the PABX
are limited.
If you want to make an internal call, but do not know where to find the person, you can make an
internal call to all extension that are not busy. If "grouping" is selected, the all-call is only valid
within the group.
Special trunk line functions. The different external lines can be addressed directly: Dial 41 for
calls to line 1, Dial 42 for calls to line 2, Dial 43 for calls to line 3.
If trunk line 2 is programmed as "selective", this line will not be available by dialling -0-. You
must Dial 42 for outgoing calls to line 2.
If trunk line 3 is programmed as "faxlink", you can use this line for outgoing calls if the line is
free. Dial 43 for outgoing calls to line 3.
It is possible to park a existing call, and make a new outgoing call. Dial R 0. If there are no 2.
external calls ringing, you will get a new external dial-tone, and you can dial the new external
number.
If is possible to dial a telephone number which is stored in the memory of the PABX. The PABX
will connect a external line, and send the telephone number from the specified memory location
as the procedure is entered. (Line 2 will not be used for memory dialling if selective line is
programmed).
All extensions can use the memory. Also those with restrictions.
Example: Dial the number stored in memory location 45: Dial: * 45.
B 5.6 Answering external calls if the ringing signal has been switched off.
If another call arrives while you are busy, you will hear a background signal every 10 seconds.
Transfer or terminate the call, and replace the hand-set. The new call is answered as you lift the
hand-set.
It is possible to pick up the new call by dialling R and 0. Then you can toggle between the
existing call and the new call by dialling R and 0 again. The call you currently hold can be
transferred as normal.
You hear a ringing signal on a telephone and wish to answer the call from another extension.
When you have an external or internal call. The call can be on hold as you make an enquiry call.
The call may then be transferred or retrieved by you.
If you want to continue the conversation from another telephone, transfer as described, and
replace the hand-set. Walk to the other phone which is ringing, and lift the hand-set. The
procedure must not take more than 90 seconds. After 90 seconds, the line is disconnected, and
the ringing signal is stopped.
When you want to make an external call, but receive busy-tone, you can ask the PABX to notify
you when one of the lines becomes available.
-- When you hear 2 cycles of internal ringing signal, the line is free.
Repeat the normal procedure by dialling 0 for outgoing calls.
If someone else has "booked" the line, you will hear the blocking tone, and the feature is not
available.
When you want to make an internal call, and the extension is busy, you can ask the PABX to
notify you when the line becomes available.
When the called extension is free, a ringing signal is heard on your telephone. If you do not
answer after two ringing sequences, the service is cancelled. If you answer, a new ringing signal
is automatically received at the previous busy extension. When the call is answered, the
conversation is established.
B 5.12 Conference.
The procedure is : You set up the external /internal call first, or have already a conversation.
Dial: R * nn. nn is the extension no. for the third party.
The called extension (nn) receives the external ringing signal if the conference is external. When
the extension is answered, the conference is established.
It is possible to temporarily turn the ringing signal off or on by a simple procedure on each
telephoneset, without programming.
It is possible to temporarily divert all calls to your extension to another extension. The calls are
diverted to the extension where the feature is selected. External calls which have been transferred
to you from another extension will also be signalled at the diverted extension.
When the diversion feature is not wanted any more, the original ringing station is selected by
repeating the service code above on your own extension.
Example: Your extension number is 25. You are attending a meeting, and want to divert
your calls to this other room. You don´t need to know the extension number at
this place. Just lift the hand-set, and dial: # 25 #. Please remember to divert the
call back to your own extension, using the same service code.
Warning! There is no warning tone at your extension number to indicate that the extension
has been diverted. You must remember to switch off this feature. If you suspect
that your extension has been diverted by accident, or by someone else, please
dial the service code above.
B 5.15 Reset.
These temporary functions B 5.13 and B 5.14. can be cancelled from the programming station.
The values you have programmed are then reinstalled.
Lift the hand-set of extension no. 22, and dial: *#
If the alarm feature is used, and the alarm has been activated, it is stopped using the following
procedure:
Lift the hand-set of any extension number, and dial: ##
B 6 OPERATOR FUNCTIONS.
The PABX can be running in three different modes:
NORMAL mode, NIGHT mode, and OPERATOR mode. The receiving of incoming external
calls are different for the three modes. The OPERATOR station (console) is extension no. 29.
Normal mode:
-- All incoming calls will ring at the pre-determined telephones which are programmed
with the ringing signal.
-- Transferred calls will be reverted after 45 sec. if not answered.
-- External "call waiting" signal to all busy extensions, except faxline.
Night mode:
-- All incoming calls will ring at the pre-determined telephones which are programmed
with the night mode ringing signal. Special programming is required for night mode
service.
Operator mode:
-- All incoming calls will be signalled on no. 29 only. (Operator station).
-- Call waiting signal only when transferring a call from the operator.
-- Transferred calls will be reverted to the operator after 40 sec. if not answered
(or if busy).
-- External call pick-up by dialling 0 cannot be performed by other than no. 29.
Operator mode can be selected by programming from the programming station no. 22, or from
the operator station no. 29:
C 7 CHOICE OF FUNCTIONS.

C 7 CHOICE OF FUNCTIONS.
The extensions which can be programmed are numbered from 22 - 29. The functions may be
changed at any time. Default setting is code 1. "nn" = the extension number you want to assign
additional functions. Lift the hand-set of extension no. 22, and dial:
Example: You want to switch off the ringing signal on telephone no. 25. Dial: # * 21 * 25 2 #
C 7.2 Blocking.
Telephones that are available for anybody may be completely blocked from making outgoing
calls. This feature is operative when the extension codes 5 and 6 above are selected.
If one or more extension lines are programmed to call restriction by code 3 or 4, the first digit
dialled to the trunk line is controlled. If the digit dialled is corresponding to one of the values
programmed, the call is allowed. If not, the line is disconnected and congestion tone will be
heard. The user can choose as allowed up to all 10 digits as the first digit.
Functions are given according to the table below:
To remove the data for call restriction, area code, erase as above.
Default value is: no data entered.
It is possible to switch off/on the external waiting tone, and to activate "music on hold". The
music source can be selected by operating the small switch under the lid. The default
programming is set to waiting tone On, music selectors OFF.
If you want to activate "music on hold", the code for Music On must be programmed. Then,
select the type of music you decide, by operating the small switch under the lid:
(In addition, an external music source must be connected as described in section A).
(In some countries this may be a legal requirement. Please check local rules). It is possible to
switch on/off a warning tone during conference.
# * 2 5 * 0 # Off. (Default)
# * 2 5 * 1 # On.
C 7.5 Reset.
If you loose the information of which functions you have selected, you have the option of
resetting the PABX to the way it was at delivery, and then start the programming all over again.
There are two different reset-codes. (See also C13.13)
a) Reset the extension settings, allowed initial digits, and area-code. This function does not
reset the trunk line settings, or trunk signalling type.
Dial: # * 7 7 #
b) Reset the trunk line settings and signalling type. This function does not reset the
extension data, or call restriction data.
Dial: # * 8 8 #
It is possible to program up to two extensions (m and n) in ringing mode, in "night position". The
two extension setting is not dependant on the extension programming in day mode.
The service code for selecting night mode or day mode can be given from extension no. 22, or
no. 29 (operator console).
To enter a telephone number into the memory bank, please follow the procedure below. The
memory bank has space for 48 telephone numbers, each max 20 digits or symbols as * and #. The

memory locations are numbered from aa= 22 to 69. For each number, the programming is ended
by replacing the hand-set.
Eksemple: Store 37150688 in memory location no. 40: Dial #*3*40*37150688 replace:
Dial: # * 3 * 55 #
To erase all the stored telephone numbers: (as this code is entered, it takes about 10 sec. to erase
all the memory. After this has been executed, the OK tone is heard)
Dial: # * 3 3 3 #
The data transmission to the display can cause interference on portable radios. It is possible to
change the data transmission mode between intermittent (low noise) mode, and continuous (safe
transfer) mode. In intermittent mode, data is sent only as there is a change of status in the PABX.
Dial: # * 64800 Continuous data transfer mode (Default).
Dial: # * 64801 Intermittent data transfer mode.
This PABX is designed to use telephones with a timed break of max. 130 ms. If the break time is
longer than 195 ms, or a line flash button is used instead of the R-button, it is possible to program
the PABX to accept the long timing as a recall signal.
As the code for memory dialling is entered, the PABX connects a line, waits a specified time for
the external dial-tone to be ready, and dial the stored number. The specified time between
connection of the line and the sending of the number can be adjusted.
The PBX is equipped with a possibility to send data about conversations on the serial port instead of the
display signal. These data can then be used to logg calls and the cost of calls. The data presented is:
a) Which extension generated the call,
b) The called number.
c) The length of the conversation (min /hours)
The pbx does not self make any calcultaion of the costs. The signal must be presented to a PC program
which do this type of calculation.
Dial: # * 6485 nn where nn= 01-22 (number of visible digits in the called number).
a) Blocking-tone: If you wait too long between two digits to be entered, or before you
start dialling, you will hear a blocking-tone. After a few seconds,
there will be no signals at all. This is to indicate that the service is not
available, or a wrong procedure is chosen. The blocking-tone is
recognized as a fast busy-tone. Replace the hand-set, and try again.
b) Confirmation tone: A tone is heard after programming new functions or data. This is to
confirm that the programming is executed. The tone lasts for one
second.
It is possible to change the ringing cadense for external ringing on line 2. (can be used to separate
incoming calls on line 2)
Dial: # * 64860 Standard ringing signal any external line. (1/4 sign./pause)(Default).
Dial: # * 64861 Special ringing signal for line 2. (1/2 sign./pause)
C 8. SPECIAL FUNCTIONS.
If you are connected to a digital public exchange or superior PABX, the special service available
in these are not lost when using this PABX.
You may connect a door bell signal to the PABX. When the door button is pressed, all available
telephones with the ringing signal On, will ring three short cycles. The telephones in use (busy),
and those programmed not to ring, will have no signal.
A special door station telephone set can be connected to the terminals marked "DP" under the lid.
When the door bell signal is heard, the door can be answered from any extension:
The door telephone can be expanded to include an electrical door opener, a electric lock which
can be controlled from any responding extension.
1. You hear a door bell signal - Lift the hand-set, and dial 20.
C 8.5 Faxlink.
By selecting "Faxlink", you can connect your fax machine to the PABX in auto-mode, and still
be able to use the fax-line for outgoing calls from any telephone set. Incoming calls on trunk line
3 will ring directly on extension 23 (fax). All other incoming calls will not be ringing on
extension 23.
Outgoing calls from the telefax are connected directly to the line without prefix (0). The
telephone numbers are dialled directly.
Outgoing calls from any other telephone set (extension) are available.
You want to make an outgoing call to the fax-line:
The PABX will automatically connect trunk line 1 directly to the operator station, no. 29, if a
power failure occurs. Do not dial -0- to get the external dial-tone! As stated in chapter 4, the
main telephone set must be switched to impulse dialling, if the public exchange accept impulse
only. Otherwise, no outgoing dialling can take place. Only incoming calls can be answered.
For safety reasons, the main extension no. 29 should not be programmed to restrictions of any
kind.
When the mains power returns, all the selected functions made by programming will still be
present in the PABX. No programming is necessary.
All temporary functions, such as call diversion and ringing signal on/off, are reset to the pre-
programmed values of operation

B 10.1 General.
The display is an effective tool to give complete information on all traffic and status of the lines.
The PABX is fully prepared for connection of the display unit. It is not necessary to program or
set any new functions on the PABX to use the display unit.
The display indicates the extension lines which are operative, and their actual status. The setting
of the trunk lines is also indicated, and the display shows the traffic information on the trunk
lines.
Therefore it should be placed at the operator´s position, or at the programming station. If the
display is placed at the same location as the PABX, the supplied 5 m cable is connected directly
to the terminals under the lid. An extra cable up to 100 m can be used if the location is too far
away.
It is possible to connect 3 display units in parallel, if wanted. Please see chapter A 2.8 for more
information about the installation of the display.
The display always indicates the pre-programmed status for all lines after power-on reset, or
when programming new functions on extension lines or trunk lines.
--Line 1 indicate the lines in use, and the functions of the trunk lines.
--Line numbers which are not visible indicates that they are "not in use".
--Selective outgoing line is indicated by "S" instead of 2 for trunk-line 2.
--Faxlink is indicated by "F" instead of 3 for trunk-line 3.
--Line 2 indicate the traffic status of the extension lines and the trunk lines.
-- Line 2 show functions related to the lines by progr: #*12* and #*13*
-- Line 2 show functions related to the telephone extensions by progr: #*21
-- Line 1 show allowed first digits when programming restrictions: #*22
-- Line 1 and 2 show grouping of internal lines when programming: #*12*3 and #*13*3
-- Line 1 show the numbers in the memory as the memory location

-- You cannot dial out using the trunk lines of the other PABX. But you can answer
incoming calls from the other PABX.
-- Extension 8 cannot be used. It is reserved as a tie-line between the two PABXs. This
means that no. 28 in the master cannot be used.
-- The internal number plan on the slave PABX is changed to 32 -37, 39 Number 38 can

master must be programmed on extension 22. Functions on the slave must be
programmed on extension 32.
-- The memory for stored telephone numbers in one PABX cannot communicate with
the memory of the other. When dialling out, one person cannot use the memory of the
other PABX. This means that if you want to have the same stored numbers in the two
memory banks, you must program all the numbers in both PABXs.
If you want to have separate stored numbers, you may use the two memory banks
individually.
