Part III Documentation

The Learning Story:

It’s Singing Time

I observed toddlers were exploring different musical instrument that they have in the
classroom. Some of them were trying to make different noises by tapping objects to
each other. They like to sing at any time of the day. For example, wait at the table for
meal times, free play time, and circle time. For these reasons, I planned this activity.
Today, Just after their morning snack time, I invited children to come to the circle. I kept
all the musical instruments in the middle of the circle. All the children were so excited to
join in the circle because they could choose their favourite musical instruments. I
started to sing “ good morning train” song with the big train moving around the singing
circle. Gage, William, and Hunter were clapping their hands. All of them started using
their musical instruments while we were singing different songs. They also started
moving their bodies according to the music. I gave the expressions while I was singing
several songs with them. Gage was beating the drum so happily. Laila did a great job
playing the xylophone. Even though I met her today for the first time, Abigale was taken
much interest in taking part in the activity.. Ben was shaking the body while we were
singing. This activity enhanced these children’s physical, emotional/ social, and
language skills. They had the opportunity to play with the new instruments throughout
the day.
ELECT Reference:
# 2.1 Emotional- Expressing feelings and language
#5.2 Fine motor- use tool and objects
