SHAKIRA
Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. Her father is Lebanese
and her mother is Colombian. She has 5 half-brothers and 3 half-sisters. Shakira is in a relationship with Spanish
soccer player Gerard Piqué. They have two children, Milan and Sasha.
Shakira writes her first song at the age of 8 and signs her first music
contract at 13. In 1996, she releases the album Pies Descalzos that
sells more than 3 million copies. In 1998, she releases Dónde Están
Los Ladrones? and reaches the top of Billboard's Latin charts. In
2000, Shakira wins her first Grammy Award for Shakira: MTV
Unplugged. At the age of 20, the singer moves with her family to
Miami, Florida. In 2001, Shakira releases her first English-language
album, Laundry Service. The album reaches No. 3 on the charts.
Laundry Service's big hits include "Whenever, Wherever" and
"Underneath Your Clothes." In 2010, her hit “Waka Waka"
becomes the theme song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In 2014,
she closes out the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. In 2012, Shakira
becomes a judge on the popular singing-competition show The
Voice along with Usher, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
Shakira creates the Pies Descalzos Foundation to help children in Colombia receive a quality education. She is
also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Gabriel García Marquez asked her to write the songs for the movie
‘Love in the Time of Cholera’.
In her free time, she loves horse riding, painting, reading, watching movies and listening to music. Her favorite
color is black. She loves rock music and horror movies. Her favorite sports are basketball, golf, swimming and
tennis. Shakira speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese, Italian and Arabic. She doesn’t like to drink alcohol and
coffee. She describes herself as a perfectionist.

Cómo usar fichas de vocabulario: la estrategia de aprendizaje de vocabulario consciente más importante es
el aprendizaje por medio de fichas de vocabulario bilingües. Las fichas de vocabulario son pequeñas fichas de 6
cm x 4 cm que tienen una palabra o una frase del idioma extranjero en un lado y la traducción en el idioma
nativo de esta palabra o frase en el otro lado. Cada estudiante hace su propio conjunto de fichas. Instrucciones
