“Effectiveness of Creating Little Teachers for Little Learners (“Munting Guro sa
Munting Mag-aaral”) at D. Albonia Cluster Schools (D. Albonia ES, San Isidro ES ad V.
Gabo ES), Jose Panganiban West District, Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte on
November, 2012 to February, 2013.

II. Background of the Study

The Basic Skills of learning is the prime concern of teachers in primary


grades specifically in Grade I. Basic skills that includes reading, writing and
arithmetic. The “No Read, no Pass” policy likewise is another reason why
reading should be given priority. Even before, it is the 3R’s that needs to
be mastered by every pupil. Little teachers refers to Grade VI pupils who
are trained to teach the “Marungko” and Fuller approached in reading, tops on
class and can handle learning enhancement in writing and in numbers. Little
learners on the other hand, refer to Grades I pupils who were identified by
their advisers that need to be on remedial class for the purpose of enhancing
their knowledge on 3R’s of learning. This study will answer the factors to be
considered on little teacher-little learner relationship in educational
enhancement, effects of such program to the teachers, parents and pupils
themselves and the identifying the measures to be employed for the
improvement of the program.
This study will give the primary class advisers an aid in conducting
remedial reading, develop sense of leadership, responsibilities and concern for
others on the part of Grade VI class being the little teachers, enhance the
knowledge on the 3R’s of learning among identified slow learners and will
help the parents realized the importance of follow-up and giving time on
developing the study habits and learning development of their children.

III. Statement of the Problem

This study seeks to answer the following question:


1. What are the factors to be considered on Little Teacher-Little Learners
relationship in educational enhancement?
2. What is the effect of such program to the teachers, parents and pupils
themselves?
3. What are the measures to be employed for the improvement of the
program?

IV. Significance of the Study

This study will be of the great help to the following:

Teachers. They will have an aid in enhancing the 3R’s of learning among their
pupils.
Grade I Pupils. They will develop their study habits and have an enhancement
on 3R’s (reading, writing, arithmetic) of learning;
Grade VI Pupils. They will develop their sense of leadership, responsibilities
and concern for others
Parents. They will find the importance of follow-up and giving their time in
developing their child’s study habits and learning development.
Future Researchers. This study will serve as reference for further study.

V. Scope of the Study

This study is limited to those identified Grade I pupils who need


enhancement on the knowledge of Basic education specifically the reading,
writing and arithmetic (3R’s) and Grade VI pupils who are capable of
handling such students. This is to be conducted on November, 2012 to
February, 2013 at D. Albonia Cluster Schools (D. Albonia ES, V. Gabo ES
and San Isidro ES), Jose Panganiban West District.

VI. Research Design

a. Methodology
Triangulation of methods will be applied. This refers to the
involving the careful choice of a range of data gathering techniques, each
of which might illuminate a different aspect of the same issue. The survey,
interview, observations and journalizing will also be use to gather the
needed data.

The researcher will follow the steps in conducting this study:

1. Identify Grade VI pupils who can handle remedial classes.


2. Conduct three-day training and workshop on how to use “Marungko”
and Fuller approach in enhancing reading abilities of Grade I pupils
3. Identify Grade I pupils who need assistance on developing the 3R’s of
learning
4. Schedule at least 5 minutes of learning during free time of both the little
teacher and little learner.
5. Monitor and evaluate outcomes of learning

b. Sampling Design

This research will use purposive sampling whereas the respondents


are chosen on the basis of their knowledge on the information desired.

c. Description of Instrument

This study will use questionnaires, observation sheet, interview


form, and tests to gather the validity of the result.

d. Data Gathering Form

The researcher will use the ECARP form in evaluating the reading
progress of the little learners. She will likewise provide a checklist
intended for the parents, teachers, parents and pupils involved to monitor
the development on the 3 R’s of learning.
