4. An air line is a transmission line in which air is the dielectric material between
two conductor, which render 𝐺 = 0. In addition, the conductor are made of
material with high conductivity so that 𝑅′ ≈ 0. For an air line with characteristic
impedance of 50 Ω and phase constant of 20 rad/m at 700 MHz, find the
inductance per meter and the capacitance per meter of the line.

10. Sketch the waveforms for voltage standing wave pattern with different load
characteristic of matched line, shorted circuit line and open circuit line. Explain
the characteristics of the waveform respectively.
11. A 50 Ω transmission line is terminated with 𝑍𝐿 = (100 + 𝑗 50 )Ω. Find the voltage
reflection coeeficient and voltage standing wave ratio.
12. A slotted line is an instrument used to measure the unknown impedance of the
load, ZL. A coaxial slotted line contains a narrow longitude slit in the outer
conductor. A small probe inserted in the slit can be used to sample the magnitude
of electric field and hence the magnitude of |𝑉̃ (𝑑) | of voltage on the line. By
moving the probe along the slotted line, it is possible to measure |𝑉̃ |𝑚𝑎𝑥 and
|𝑉̃ |𝑚𝑖𝑛 and the distance from the load at which they occur. Measurement with a
50- Ω slotted line connected to unknown impedance determined that S=3. The
distance between the successive voltage minima and was found to be 30 cm,
and the first voltage minima was located at 12 cm from the load. Determine the
load impedance.

impedance waveform.

circuited lossless transmission line. Explain the properties of all parameters
related to expression. Sketch the normalized voltage and current and input
impedance waveform.
17. Find 𝑍𝑜 and 𝛽 of 57-cm-long loss line transmission line whose input impedance
𝑠𝑐
was measure as 𝑍𝑖𝑛 = 𝑗40.42 Ω when terminated in a short circuit and as
𝑜𝑐
𝑍𝑖𝑛 = −𝑗121.24 Ω when terminated in an open circuit. From the measurement,
it is found that the line is between 3 and 3.25𝜆 wavelengths long.
