A. Concept Certain safety precautions must be observed when using and
storing materials that are harmful.
Ways to consider when storing materials
1. Keep insecticide and other dangerous chemicals in well
ventilated cabinets.
2. Separate poisonous substances from food items.
3. Label poisonous substances to identify them properly
4. Put containers with combustible materials away and electric
outlets
5. Keep harmful materials out of children’s reach.

Identify whether the materials are useful or harmful.
“Children, I have here some materials. I will show it to you
one by one, tell if is useful or harmful”.
(Teacher shows different materials that maybe useful or
harmful) e.g. soap, empty glass bottle, alcohol…
(incase no real objects available picture can be used)
What makes you say it is useful? (Because we always yse
them) When do this materials become harmful?(When we
will not use it properly)
 Review vocabulary learned in the past lesson corrosive
, poison, explosive, flammable (Teacher show pictures of
describing the word)
I have here some pictures, (get the first picture) What is this?

tiles)These materials are corrosive materials. What do you mean
by corrosive? (Corrosive - destructive substance: a substance
that is able to destroy something progressively by chemical
action, e.g. an acid)

“After the video presentation, you will,answer the following

1. What are the harmful materials you that you saw on the
video? (gas, paints, poisons, tile cleaners) Where should
be they stored to avoid harmful effects to human and
environment? (in safe place)
2. Based on the presentation, list down precautionary
measures you should take into consideration in handling
harmful materials. Write your answers on the strips of
manila paper and present in a graphic organizer.

receive a task card with the instructions on it.

Group 1
Given different improvised containers of harmful materials and
cut-outs of warning symbols. Paste the warning symbols in the
right container to indicate that the content of the container is
harmful.

Role playing – Show to the class what will happen if you
will be exposed to harmful materials.
Group 3
Given a list of materials, show how to use them properly.

she is always in a hurry, she just keeps the cans and bottles of
painting materials together with the canned goods in one cabinet.
___3. Carlo woke up late and had to prepare breakfast for
himself. After frying hotdogs, he just turned off the ignition
knob of the stove and went to eat his breakfast
