ARALING PANLIPUNAN 8

Narrative Report
Students often consider Araling Panlipunan to be the most boring subject since they
visualize Araling Panlipinan as a subject that talks about people, places, and events that they
weren’t even aware or a part of it. I may not have graduated with a degree in education but I know
ArPan is more than just discussion and all the memorization of history facts and details. Despite my
passion and love for ArPan, I honestly felt bewildered and overwhelmed with AWith the fact that
this is the first time I undergo teaching, what makes me more eager is the intention within me to
show students how I interesting and fun ArPan is. With these following realization in hand, the
challenge is how to make ArPan an interesting, fun yet wholesome and goal-oriented subject. It is
in the teaching technique and strategy that a teacher can showcase different ways to motivate
students. Transfer of concept, ideas, knowledge, and information considering the competencies of
the learners are things which are valuable and should be taken account in choosing the strategies to
be use.

The following are the strategies and techniques I used in teaching ArPan 8(Guijo &
Mangium):

1. Group Collaboration – a team work where students are given a task to accomplish. Group
works are essential in many ways. This is a way of coordinating different ideas in order to
achieve a common goal like creating a reflection for a certain topic or by just simply sharing
insights among group members. Group works also helps develop social abilities of students
like interacting with other individual and presenting one’s idea.
2. Reporting – delivering a certain topic either in oral or written form
3. Poster Making – delivering one’s idea through poster form thus revealing their artistic side.
4. Games (Paper Fish Slapping/Race of Wits/Mermaid Game) – variety of games which
involves answering questions related to a topic and earning a point for their respective group.
5. Role Playing- students take turn as to what role they are going to portray base on a topic
presented. This gives students chance to express themselves in a dramatic play and is a very
flexible and convenient teaching approach because it requires no special tools, technology or
environment.
6. Amazing race – these involves series of stations with corresponding challenges and questions
that student/s must overcome or answer.

Araling Panlipunan is fun if different approaches, technique and methods in teaching is applied
correctly and through these a mentor can give each and every student a meaningful learning
experience thus changing a student’s perception of ArPan as “boring”. With the techniques I used, I
noticed certain improvements. I’ve noticed an increase in attendance for certain students and some
became more compliant with the requirements asked since they enjoy what they are doing. I’ve also
noticed students who are very timid before but is actively participating now. Tardiness also started
decreasing. These are just some of the results I gathered with the application of varied strategies.
