to them and encourage them to see the police as their
friend, not the enemy.
Interviewer: You’ve also worked in young people’s prisons,
haven’t you?
Paul: Yes, and I definitely don’t want younger people to
go to prison for less serious crimes like shoplifting or
spraying graffiti on walls. They should be let off with a
warning, do community service or get a fine. Everyone
should have a second chance. I think the experience
of prison is unhelpful for most young people, and it is
cheaper and better for society to keep them out of the
prison system.
