RESEARCH & EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

Aug 2018 - Present PhD Student: International Center for Radio Astronomy Research
(ICRAR)

Supervisors: Dr. Claudia Lagos, A/Prof. Chris Power

• Project title: “The comprehensive treatment of baryons in semi-analytic

models of galaxy formation”
• Further developing expertise in computational astrophysics and
numerical approaches to simulating galaxy formation

Aug 2017 – Present Practical Class Tutor & Lab Demonstrator: UWA School of Physics

• Assisting students in first-year physics units (PHYS1001, PHYS1021)

at the UWA School of Physics
• Communication & group coordination skills in delivering course content
• Teach the complex concepts introduced in university physics

Feb 2017 – Jul 2018 Honours Student: International Center for Radio Astronomy Research
(ICRAR)

Supervisors: Dr. Claudia Lagos, A/Prof. Chris Power

• Project title: “Measuring the quenching timescales of galaxies using

the EAGLE simulation suite”
• Specialist knowledge in galaxy transformation and hydrodynamical
simulations of galaxy formation
• SQL database queries used to collect data from EAGLE
• Data used (processed in Python) to first determine if a galaxy is passive
or active at each redshift snapshot, and determine the timescale over
which the quenching (cessation of star formation) of each galaxy occurs
• Developed communication skills over the process of iteratively refining
galaxy selection criteria, as well as sharing ideas with numerous
scientists at ICRAR
• Of particular importance was the process of learning how to convey
when a concept or idea part of the project was not clear as a student,
and subsequently taking the appropriate steps to rectify these situations

Dec 2016 – Feb 2017 Defence Engineering Intern (Aerospace): Aquila Engineering

• Awarded with an aerospace engineering internship as part of the

government supported Defence Engineering Internship Program (DEIP)
• Lead multiple structural engineering repair projects on various aircraft
components through to completion
• Lead a Finite Element Modelling (FEM) project and refined the
Horizontal Stabiliser mesh of the Pilatus PC-9 Aircraft’s FEM model
for future engineering use
• Hands-on experience in non-destructive testing of critical aircraft
components, including use of advanced eddy current devices
• Learned the importance of clear communication and team-work
in the high-stakes environment of aircraft safety
