RE: RECOMMENDATION FOR MAXON J.

KASUMBA

It is with great honor that I provide this recommendation for Mr. Kasumba to cover his
performance as a teacher and a role model for students and colleagues at Lycee de Kigali.
Maxon served as the History Department Chair, 12th Grade Promotion Head, and History
teacher during the period between 2008 and 2011 while I was the Director of Studies.

Maxon demonstrated to me and to others a strong intelligence, work ethics, confidence, and
dedication to his career. He brings his self-motivation and a devotion to lifelong learning into
his workplace both in the classroom and outside of it. Maxon has the ability to use the
challenges of his career as lessons to be flexible, to learn, to improve his methods and to share
them with the faculty. He is not afraid to make mistakes, knowing that they will help him
become a better educator.

I believe that Maxon is one of the most tolerant and honest person I know. He works to develop
and strengthen multicultural relationships among students, teachers and schools. He has
worked with students and teachers of many cultures, and he respects the diversity of all. He is
respected by his peers and students as well as being respected within the highest circles of
educators in the whole of Rwanda. His capacity to develop as an educator is boundless and he
will always try to change students’ weaknesses into strength. When presented with new
curriculum or standards, Maxon exceeds all expectations.

With his position as a History Department Chair and History teacher, he worked with the
History faculty to consider new teaching strategies and methodologies. Maxon pioneered
in-school professional development workshops in which all teachers were involved. He
researched and implemented new teaching methods and approaches. During his time at our
school, his students consistently passed the History National Examination in Grade A, every
year. His excellent record in the whole of Rwanda is yet to be broken!

Maxon is a good listener and takes advice seriously, with a desire to always better the outcome
of a lesson or skill. He has an excellent reputation in the whole of Rwanda where he has worked
with all the national education institutions and projects in the Ministry of Education He has also
made our school popular due to his consistently excellent academic and sports performance
every academic year. He listens to his superiors, his students and his peers.

Finally, our sports department particularly in the field of soccer has won many accolades for the
school due to his tireless effort and support. As a head coach, his creativity and innovativeness
motivated most students to join the sport. Many students who participated in sports activities
found counsel in him even when he did not teach them in class. It is very important to note that
Maxon took on this role without pay. Indeed, he has been a strong influence on our students in
the field of extra-curricular activities at all levels.

I endorse Mr. Kasumba as an excellent educator who will achieve great success with your
program. For more information about Mr. Kasumba, you can contact me at
