EXT. PARK - DAY

CASSIDY sits on a bench. DAVID enters.

DAVID
Hey, you could’ve waited for me.

DAVID sits next to her.

CASSIDY
Well maybe you should walk a little
faster.

CASSIDY nudges DAVID.

DAVID
So, how was that dinner?

CASSIDY
Oh my God, that waiter was so funny.

DAVID
He was alright.

CASSIDY
What are you talking about? That rant
he went on was hilarious.

DAVID
What happened to not talking to other
guys?

CASSIDY
Oh come on, that doesn’t count.

DAVID
It counts if he was flirting with
you!

CASSIDY
 ot flirting.
He was n

They turn their backs to each other on the bench and pout.
David gets a text.

CASSIDY (CONT’D)
I told you to stop texting her.

DAVID
It’s not her this time.

CASSIDY
Stop texting her.

MALE FRIEND walks past.

MALE FRIEND

Hey, Cassidy.

CASSIDY
Hey.

MALE FRIEND exits.

DAVID
What did I already say about other
guys?

CASSIDY
He’s just helping me with a project
for Chaney’s class, no big deal.

DAVID
Don’t talk to him.

Beat. They turn to each other.

DAVID (CONT’D)
This isn’t working.

CASSIDY
I agree.

Beat.

DAVID
I’ll miss you.

CASSIDY
3

Miss you too, I guess.

DAVID
What do you mean, “I guess?”

CASSIDY
I didn’t mean to say that.

DAVID
You know I’m sick of you taking
advantage of me.

CASSIDY
Well, I’m sick of you, period!

DAVID
Well, fine!

CASSIDY
Fine!

They both storm out.

INT. DAVID’S DORM - DAY

David puts his head down on his desk. He cries.

Cassidy lies on her bed. She cries into her pillow.

EXT. PARK - DAY

enters.

MALE FRIEND
Hey. You doing alright?

CASSIDY
Oh, hi. No.

Male friend sits next to her.

David sits, depressed. His phone buzzes. He takes it out

and looks. He smiles and types a reply.

EXT. PARK - DAY

Cassidy laughs with Male Friend. David and FEMALE FRIEND

enter. They laugh. As David walks past Cassidy, the two
glare at each other. David and Female Friend sit on a
different bench.

Cassidy glances over to look at them. David does the same.

They meet eyes and quickly look away.

MALE FRIEND
You alright, Cassidy?

FEMALE FRIEND
You alright, David?

DAVID
Shhh!

Cassidy and David look over at each other again. They lock
eyes and glare at each other. They disperse glances again
after a brief period of eye contact.

CASSIDY
How could he move on so quickly?

DAVID
How could she move on so quickly?

MALE FRIEND
Maybe, well, maybe it was easy for
him.

CASSIDY
What?!

Cassidy glares over at David.

FEMALE FRIEND
Perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be.

DAVID
What?!

David glares over at Cassidy. They lock eyes. They’re

furious. They look away.

INT. DAVID’S DORM - DAY

David paces around. Female Friend sits in a chair.

FEMALE FRIEND
Just calm down, please.

David slams his fist on the table and sits. He puts his
head down.

INT. CASSIDY’S DORM - DAY

Cassidy lies on her bed. She holds her hair and glares at
nothing.

MALE FRIEND
I think you should just take a deep
breath.

CASSIDY
Oh, shut it.

INT. DAVID’S DORM - DAY

FEMALE FRIEND
Okay, look-

INT. CASSIDY’S DORM - DAY

MALE FRIEND
-I know this must be like a knife in
the heart for you-

INT. DAVID’S DORM - DAY

FEMALE FRIEND
-but you need to let her go.

INT. CASSIDY’S DORM - DAY

CASSIDY
A knife in the heart?

Cassidy gives a sinister look.

EXT. PARK - DAY

David sits on the bench. Cassidy enters. She approaches

him.

CASSIDY
Hey.

DAVID
Hey.

Cassidy sits next to him. She has her hand behind her back.
David has his hand to his side. They both have a fake
friendliness quality to their tones of voice.

CASSIDY
You mad at me?

DAVID
Course not, you?

CASSIDY
No, just glad you agreed to meet me.

DAVID
Same. I was worried I’d lose you.

A knife is pulled out of its sheath.

CASSIDY
7

I couldn’t bear to see you with

anyone else.

A knife is flipped open.

Cassidy leans against David.

CASSIDY (CONT’D)
At least we can be together.

DAVID
Finally.

They put their arms around each other. They both look down
at each other’s hands, then at each other. They stare for a
brief moment. They laugh and put the knives behind them on
the bench. The knives are crossed. They lean on each other.
