OBJECTIVES OF PROJECT

 To conduct a literature survey, this includes all the process routes, properties, uses
and market cost.
 To optimise the process routes of traditional use of syngas and CO2 hydrogenation for
the project.
 To develop the best process flow sheet for the selected chemical process
 To develop and calculate the energy balance and complete material.

PROJECT PLAN

SCOPE OF WORK Timeline

FIRST SEMESTER

Introduction 26th April-4th May

Conduct a literature review 4th May-16th May

Methodology 17th May-27th May

SECOND SEMESTER

SCOPE OF WORK Timeline

Simulate 5th July- 19th July

Preliminary heat integration 22nd July-31st July

Preliminary Hazard Analysis 3rd August- 17th August

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the project. Chapter 2 introduces the theoretical

background and a research literature on methanol synthesis on both CO2 hydrogenation and
traditional use of syn-gas. Chapter 3 explains the basic principles of the process simulator to
be used in the project, DWSIM. Chapter 4 discusses the results and describes in detail the
simulation model of the process under investigation and the validation process that was
performed. Chapter 5 discusses the optimisation and sensitivity behaviour of the processes of
the simulations with different operating conditions. Multiple cases with different fresh feed
compositions will be evaluated to understand whether it is possible to create methanol in a
reasonably quantity starting from an inlet stream with properties not close to the designed
ones (e.g. a stream with a stoichiometric coefficient at the reactor inlet not in the range of the
optimal one).
