We wish to inform that All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) have jointly launched
AICTE-INAE TEACHERS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP SCHEME for Engineering Teachers for Doctoral Research in Central Laboratories in order to
promote a research culture amongst the faculty in AICTE approved engineering institutions.
Under this scheme, engineering teachers in AICTE approved engineering colleges/institutions shall be sponsored to pursue research in Council of Scientific
and Industrial Research (CSIR)/ Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO)/ Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Department of Space
(DoS) laboratories located across the country. As per guidelines on the scheme, INAE provides a monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 and an annual Contingency
Grant of Rs. 10,000 for three years for the candidates selected to pursue Doctoral Programme under the subject scheme in one of the laboratories under the
purview of the scheme.
The applications are being invited from eligible faculty members of AICTE approved engineering institutions.
You are requested to disseminate the details of the scheme to the faculty desirous of pursuing the PhD programme in your institution.

(b) List of vacancies under the scheme.

The final selection of candidates will be done by INAE Steering Committee in consultation with the representative from concerned lab offering the course.
Registration of the selected candidates will be done as per practice being followed by the concerned labs in respect of their own scientists/scholars who are
pursuing PhD programme. The PhD degree will be awarded by the concerned organizations of CSIR/DRDO/DAE/DoS.

CSIR
The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) – a premier industrial R&D organization aims to provide industrial competitiveness, strong S&T base
for strategic sectors and advancement of fundamental knowledge. CSIR is recognized as the largest publicly funded R&D organization having linkages to
academia, R&D organizations and Industry.
Admission procedure:
Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) provides teaching and research facilities to eligible candidates in CSIR laboratories. The candidates
applying for CSIR labs are guided by AcSIR to report to respective Guides in concerned labs before admission. After successful completion of comprehensive
examination PhD admission is confirmed for the applicant. The registration will be valid for specified duration of the programme.
DRDO
Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) constituted in 1958 currently has a network of more than 50 central laboratories which are deeply
engaged in developing defence technologies covering various disciplines, like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems,
instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, transportation systems, information systems and
agriculture.
Admission procedure:
Personal interview /interaction of the concerned candidate as well as identification of suitable guides for eligible candidates will be conducted by Defence
Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), DRDO. The registration of selected candidates will be done as per practice being followed by concerned labs. The
registration will be valid for specified duration of the programme.
DAE
The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) was constituted on August 3, 1954 under the direct charge of the Prime Minister through a Presidential Order. DAE
has been engaged in the development of nuclear power technology, applications of radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, industry and
basic research. It also supports eight institutes of international repute engaged in research in basic sciences, astronomy, astrophysics, cancer research and
education. DAE comprises five research centers, three industrial organizations, five public sector undertakings and three service organizations.
Admission procedure:
Local Academic Standing Committee of concerned research centre under DAE will conduct personal interview and or/test to evaluate the suitability of
candidate prior to admission in the PhD programme under the subject scheme. The registration of selected candidates will be done as per practice being
followed by concerned research centre. A pre–PhD programme is mandatory for a stipulated period of time in concurrence with Head of the research centre.
The registration will be valid for specified duration of the programme.
DoS
Department of Space (DoS) constituted in 1972 has the primary responsibility of promoting development of space science & technology towards achieving
self-reliance and for space applications facilitating all-round development of the nation. It is committed to carry out research and development in satellite and
launch vehicle technology. DoS aims to promote the development and application of space science and technology for the socio-economic benefit of the
country.
Admission procedure:
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), an autonomous institute under DoS, offers doctoral and postdoctoral programmes. After personal
interaction, if a candidate is found to be eligible for pursuing PhD under the subject scheme, the candidate is supposed to register for coursework at IIST
subsequent to which the PhD research is pursued at the concerned lab. The registration will be valid for specified duration of the programme.

AICTE and INAE have launched the AICTE-INAE TEACHERS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP SCHEME for Engineering Teachers for Doctoral Research in
Central Laboratories in order to promote a research culture amongst the faculty in AICTE approved engineering institutions. Under this scheme, engineering
teachers in AICTE approved engineering colleges/institutions shall be sponsored to pursue research in Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)/
Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO)/ Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)/ Department of Space (DoS) laboratories leading to the
award of a Ph.D degree in the chosen field of study. The Ph.D degree will be awarded by the concerned organizations of CSIR, DRDO, DAE and DoS. The
period of association of the engineering teachers selected under this scheme will be a maximum of three years. The age of the candidate should be 35 years or
below.
a) The candidates should be permanent faculty members in an AICTE approved institution offering at least M.E. /M Tech degree courses.
b) The age of the candidate should be 35 years or below on January 01 of the year in which he/she join the scheme.
c) The engineering teacher should have obtained 1st Division or equivalent in B.E. /B Tech and M.E./M.Tech degree courses.
d) A candidate selected for admission under this scheme will execute an undertaking to serve his/her parent institution for a minimum period of three
years after completing the PhD programme.

Financial Arrangement & Logistics
a) A scholarship of Rs. 15,000/-per month will be provided by INAE along with a contingency grant of Rs. 10,000/-per year for 3 years. The
contingency grant will be provided to cover the cost of consumables, reprography and expenditure incurred for attending national conferences.
b) The scholarship and contingency grant will be released by INAE each year, out of funds received from AICTE to the concerned labs who shall
disburse the same to the candidates.
c) The parent institution nominating the engineering teacher shall provide 75% of the salary directly to him/her
d) The arrangement for accommodation, payment of tuition fees, registration fees etc will be carried out as per the practice being followed by the
concerned labs in respect of their own scientists/scholars who are pursuing PhD programme.
The Intellectual Property Rights that is know how/design/technologies/software/patent/copyright or publication of research results generated out of the
association of the engineering teacher under this scheme shall be governed by the guidelines of the concerned laboratory where the candidate is pursuing PhD
programme.
Duration
The duration of the PhD programme will be three years subject to an extension by a maximum of one year for submission of PhD thesis which would be
carried out in his/her parent institution.
a) The applications under the scheme shall be invited twice a year based on the academic calendar.
b) The Director/Principal of the AICTE approved Engineering College will ensure the correctness of the data for eligibility of the engineering teacher
and recommend a maximum of two teachers each year under this scheme.
c) The applications received by INAE shall be scrutinized to ensure that the stipulated eligibility criteria with regards to age, qualification etc. have been
met. These applications will be sent to the respective departments’ viz. CSIR/DRDO/DAE/DOS.
d) CSIR/DRDO/DAE/DOS shall conduct the interviews (if necessary), identify suitable guide(s) in consultation with the concerned labs and give
suitable feedback to INAE for each candidate.
e) The Selection Committee having representation from CSIR/DRDO/DAE/DOS will meet at INAE office to carry out final selection based on the
evaluation of above mentioned feedback.
f) The registration of the selected candidates will be done as per practice being followed by the concerned labs in respect of their own scientists/scholars
who are pursuing PhD programme.
g) The Ph.D degree will be awarded by the concerned organizations of CSIR/DRDO/DAE/DOS.
h) A candidate selected for admission under this scheme will execute an undertaking to serve his/her parent institution for a minimum period of three
years after completing the PhD programme for which the parent institution shall be responsible.
i) The registration of the selected candidates will be done as per practice being followed by the concerned labs in respect of their own scientists/scholars
who are pursuing PhD programme.
