How to Unlock Three / 3 UK

Mifi / Huawei E5830 FREE!

Having scoured the web for quite a while to find a free way to unlock my 3 Mifi device I
have eventually managed to do it by combining several techniques. Beware that
modifying the firmware and removing the sim lock are not the same thing! I will describe
how to do both here and I have linked to the individual resources at the bottom of the
page. As many of the links I have found were “broken” or the software had changed I
have combined everything in to one .zip file for you to download. Since publishing the
website I have been told that the PSAS installer in the .zip is corrupt - you can download
it from here.

I am running Windows 7 via VMWare (v3.1.1) on a Mac with the latest version of
VMWare Tools which posed it’s own problems (sometimes froze/crashed/restarted but
no permanent harm done). As long as you ensure that the device is “Connected to
Windows” it should work. I had to disconnect and re-connect a few times throughout
each process to make it work.

The current 3 firmware does not allow access to the web interface and some versions do
not allow you to change the apn (access point name) which is required if you use another
provider. The version I have included allows you to do this.

All the software you need is in this zip file: Unlock E5830.zip

Some sites recommend removing the SIM card. I found it worked best with it in. I had no
SD card in the device.
If you want to check the existing firmware first...
1. 1)Connect the device to your PC with a USB cable and download and run the firmware
upgrade
tool(WLCGCPU11020_UPDATE_ALL_NO_QCSBL_V100R001C00B112SP05_USB)
 2)Choose “I accept the agreement” and select “Next”.

3. 3)Software will search for the device

 4)Your device will be displayed. If it isn’t try disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
5. 5)Now you need to select “cancel” as the device isn’t actually ready to upgrade.
Note: I personally right-clicked on the install file and selected Properties->Compatibility
and checked “Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (service Pack 3)”
and “Run as administrator”

To upgrade the firmware...

1. 1)Unplug the modem from the computer
2. 2)Turn the modem off

3)Press and hold the “Mobile Dial Key” and then press the power key for about 5
seconds until the red signal LED and the yellow battery LED are both on. (if it doesn’t
work, remove the battery and try again)
4)Connect the device to your PC with a USB cable and download and run the firmware
upgrade

5)Choose “I accept the agreement” and select “Next”.

 8)Your device will be displayed. If it isn’t try disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
9. 9)Press “Start” to move to the next step

10) Click “Yes” to start the upgrade

 11)You should now see “Status: Updating Firmware”. The process takes about 15
minutes and sometimes looks like nothing is happening!
12. 12)If an error appears, unplug the device, take the battery out and try again. It took about
5 attempts for mine to finally work.

Note: It is normal that the current version is shown as “unknown”.

I personally right-clicked on the install file and selected Properties->Compatibility and
checked “Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (service Pack 3)” and
“Run as administrator”

You will now be able to access the web interface by connecting to the Mi-FI / E5830
network and then entering http://192.168.1.1 in to your web browser. The username and
password are both: admin

To unlock the SIM

The SIM card lock is still in place at this point. If you are happy with your current network
and just want to be able to access the web interface then stop here.

I used the youtube video linked below to get the general idea of how to do the next stage
as it shows you step by step but with software I could no longer obtain.

1. 1)Connect the device to the computer via USB and turn it on.

2. 2)Open install and run DC unlocker client (I could only get this to work by changing the
compatibility settings to “Vista - Service Pack 2” and running as administrator). I found
this software a bit temperamental and it isn’t strictly required - it’s just nice to use it to see
 that you’ve been successful.

3)Click on the magnifying glass and the details of your modem should appear. It should
say “locked” next to SIM Lock Status but note that it will only do so if another operator’s
sim card is in the device. If your original sim is in there then it will incorrectly say
“unlocked”. Note that the screenshot shows “unlocked” as I’ve already unlocked it!
4. 4)Run PSAS (I ran this as Administrator and compatibility for Vista Service Pack 2)
5. 5)Click on “Hardware Forensics” -> “Use Mobile Ports”
6. 6)Select the correct port under “Serial Com Port”
7. 7)Select the “Diag Port QC” tab
8. 8)Under “Diag Functions” about half way down you will see a drop-down box. Select
“Read EFS”, check “alternative method” then click “Let’s Go!”
9. 9)Enter a file name e.g. abc.txt (remember the .txt extension) then click “save”
10) Browse to the file (C:/Program Files/PSAS/abc.txt) and open it in notepad -
you will see a lot of junk but bear with me!
11) Scroll to the very bottom and then along (this is where the video link I’ve put at the
bottom of this page comes in useful) until you see some numbers appear. This is your
unlock code!
12) Copy this code
13) Close PSAS
14) Run CardLock_Unlock
15) Your IMEI number should be shown, enter the code you have just copied and click
OK.
16) Your card should now be unlocked.
17) Now run DC Unlocker to check that the SIM Lock status has changed to “Unlock”

Setting up another network

1. 1)Turn on your device (not connected to your computer), connect via Wi-Fi and bring up
the web admin page (type http://192.18.1.1 in to your browser)
2. 2)Log in (default username and password = “admin”
3. 3)If you have managed to successfully unlock your sim card you should a green light
next to “SIM” at the top right of the page.
4. 4)Click on “Advanced Settings” then “Dial-Up Settings” then “Profile Settings”
5. 5)In order to create a new profile just over-type the current “Profile Name”
6. 6)Enter the Username, password and APN from the list I have linked to below (flexispy)
7. 7)For example, Vodafone UK prepay uses “web” as the username and password with
“pp.internet” as the APN
8. 8)I left the “Dial Up Number” as it was (*99#)
9. 9)Click “Save” - You should now see a screen confirming your changes
10) Click “Advanced Settings” - > “Dial Up Settings” again now select “Connection
Settings”
11) The default profile is shown (with a D next to it). Change it to your new profile and
click “Apply”
12) If you switch between SIM cards you will need to do this last step each time before
you can
browse.

Hur till låsa upp tre / 3 UK MiFi / Huawei E5830 GRATIS!

min 3 MiFi enhet har jag till slut lyckats göra det genom att kombinera flera
tekniker. Akta att modifiera firmware och ta bort sim låset är inte samma sak!
Jag kommer att beskriva hur man gör både här och jag har länkat till de
enskilda resurserna längst ner på sidan. Eftersom många av de länkar jag har
hittat var "trasig" eller mjukvaran hade förändrats Jag har kombinerat allt i en
.zip-fil som du kan ladda ner. Sedan publicera hemsidan jag har fått höra att det
PSAS installeraren i .zip är skadad - kan du ladda ner det härifrån.
Jag kör Windows 7 via VMWare (v3.1.1) på en Mac med den senaste versionen
av VMware Tools som ställs egen problem (ibland frös / kraschade / startas om,
men ingen permanent skada skedd). Så länge du se till att enheten är "Ansluten
till Windows" det bör fungera. Jag var tvungen att koppla ur och återansluta
några gånger under varje process för att få det att fungera.
Den nuvarande 3 firmware tillåter inte åtkomst till webbgränssnittet och vissa
versioner inte tillåter dig att ändra APN (kopplingspunktsnamn) som krävs om
du använder en annan leverantör. Den version jag har inkluderat kan du göra
det här.
All programvara du behöver finns i denna zipfil: Unlock E5830.zip

Vissa webbplatser rekommenderar att ta bort SIM-kortet. Jag tyckte att det
fungerade bäst med den i. Jag hade ingen SD-kort i enheten.
Om du vill kontrollera den befintliga firmware först ...
1) Anslut enheten till datorn med en USB-kabel och ladda ner och köra

uppgradera.

Kompatibilitet och kontrolleras "Kör det här programmet i kompatibilitetsläge
för Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" och "Kör som administratör"
För att uppgradera firmware ...
1) Koppla ur modemet från datorn
2) Stäng av modemet

3) Tryck och håll "Mobile Dial Key" och tryck sedan på strömbrytaren i ca 5
sekunder tills den röda signalen LED och den gula batteri lysdioden är båda på.
(Om det inte fungerar, ta ut batteriet och försök igen)

4) Anslut enheten till datorn med en USB-kabel och ladda ner och köra
uppgradering av firmware verktyget
(WLCGCPU11020_UPDATE_ALL_NO_QCSBL_V100R001C00B112SP05_USB)
5) Välj "Jag accepterar avtalet" och välj "Nästa".

8) Enheten kommer att visas. Om det inte är att försöka koppla bort och
återansluta enheten.
9) Tryck på "Start" för att gå vidare till nästa steg
10) Klicka på "Ja" för att starta uppgraderingen

11) Du bör nu se "Status: Uppdaterar Firmware". Processen tar cirka 15

minuter och ibland ser ut som ingenting händer!
12) Om ett fel visas, koppla ur enheten, ta ut batteriet och försök igen. Det tog
ca 5 försök för mig att äntligen arbeta.
Obs: Det är normalt att den nuvarande versionen visas som "okänd".
Jag personligen högerklickat på installationsfilen och valt Egenskaper->
Kompatibilitet och kontrolleras "Kör det här programmet i kompatibilitetsläge
för Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" och "Kör som administratör"
Du kommer nu att kunna komma åt webbgränssnittet genom att ansluta till Mi-
FI / E5830 nätverk och sedan skriva in http://192.168.1.1 i din webbläsare.
Användarnamnet och lösenordet är båda: admin
För att låsa upp SIM
SIM-kortlåset är fortfarande på plats vid denna tidpunkt. Om du är nöjd med
din nuvarande nätverk och bara vill kunna komma åt webbgränssnittet sedan
stanna här.
Jag använde youtube video länkad nedan för att få den allmänna idén om hur
man gör nästa steg eftersom det visar dig steg för steg, men med programvara
kunde jag inte längre gäller.
1) Anslut enheten till datorn via USB och slå på den.
2) Öppna installera och köra DC Unlocker klient (jag kunde bara få detta att
fungera genom att ändra inställningarna kompatibilitets till "Vista - Service Pack
2" och kör som administratör). Jag hittade det här programmet lite
temperaments och det är inte absolut nödvändigt - det är bara trevligt att
använda den för att se att du har varit framgångsrik.

3) Klicka på förstoringsglaset och detaljerna i modemet ska visas. Det borde

säga "låst" bredvid SIM-lås Status men observera att det bara kommer att göra
det om en annan operatörs SIM-kort finns i enheten. Om din ursprungliga sim
är där så kommer det felaktigt att säga "olåst". Observera att skärmdumpen
visar "olåst" som jag redan har låst upp det!
4) Kör PSAS (jag körde detta som administratör och kompatibilitet för Vista
Service Pack 2)
5) Klicka på "Maskinvara Forensics" -> "Använd Mobile Hamnar"
6) Välj rätt port under "Serial Com Port"
7) Välj "Diag Port QC" -fliken
8) Under "Diag funktioner" om halvvägs ner ser du en listruta. Välj "Läs EFS",
kolla "alternativ metod" och klicka sedan på "Låt oss gå!"
9) Ange ett filnamn, t.ex. abc.txt (minns .txt) och klicka sedan på "Spara"
10) Bläddra till filen (C: / Program Files / PSAS / abc.txt) och öppna den i
notepad -
du kommer att se en hel del skräp, men bär med mig!
11) Bläddra till botten och sedan längs (det är där videolänken jag har lagt
längst ner på denna sida kommer i användbart) tills du ser några siffror visas.
Detta är din upplåsningskod!
12) Kopiera den här koden
13) Stäng PSAS
14) Kör CardLock_Unlock
15) Din IMEI-nummer ska visas, ange koden som du just har kopierat och klicka
på OK.
16) Ditt kort ska nu vara olåst.
17) Nu kör DC Unlocker för att kontrollera att SIM-lås status har ändrats till
"Olåst"
Ställa in ett annat nätverk
1. Slå på enheten (inte ansluten till datorn), ansluta via Wi-Fi och få upp webb
admin sidan (typ http://192.18.1.1 in till din webbläsare)
2. Logga in (standard användarnamn och lösenord = "admin"
3. Om du har lyckats att framgångsrikt låsa SIM-kortet bör du grönt ljus bredvid
"SIM" längst upp till höger på sidan.
4. Klicka på "Avancerade inställningar" och sedan "Dial-Up Settings" och sedan
"Profilinställningar"
5. För att skapa en ny profil drygt-skriver den nuvarande "Profilnamn"
6. Ange användarnamn, lösenord och APN från listan jag har länkat till nedan
(flexispy)
7. Till exempel Vodafone UK förskottsbetalning använder "web" som
användarnamn och lösenord med "pp.internet" som APN
8. Jag lämnade "Dial Up Number" som det var (* 99 #)
9. Klicka på "Spara" - Du bör nu se en skärm som bekräftar dina ändringar
