Animals should not be used in circus. The environment where they perform and their living
conditions are usually inappropriate. Tigers, for example which naturally live in wilderness,
must perform tricks on a narrow stage and spend their lifetime in a small cage.
Besides, the living conditions of the circus animals are poor. They live in a cramped
condition most of the time. They actually need more space to roam. They also do not have
freedom to live with their own kind.
We should ban the use of animals in circus and their confinement there.

I am an elementary teacher, and the answer to whether or not cell phones should be used
in school is a simple one for me. At this level, it is difficult to see a place for them. With the
integration of technology into curriculum being a gradual initiative in my building, we are not
anywhere near using cell phones to enhance our lessons. Many of my students do not even have
cell phones let alone ones that would enable them to research topics or connect with others.
The pros and cons are out there, but for me, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.
According to Family Education, a valid list of cons is presented as follows. Students often
forget to turn off their phones in class, and ringing noises or text-message alerts disrupt
learning. Also, students cell phone networks ass to the spread of rumors and misinformation,
which can be harmful during a widespread crisis. For instance, phones can be used as cheating
devices during exams. In terms of health, the long-term physical effects of cell phone use are
still undetermined.
In my opinion, the use of mobile phones in classes has these drawbacks: Just the other day,
I had a student in my class whose cell phone went off. It not only took 5 minutes to find the
cell phone, but another chunk of time was spent trying to redirect the students and to try to get
back to the focus of the lesson. Next, the use of cell phones to pass notes is simply a hindrance
to learning. Students are not engaged in the lesson, and are showing disrespect to the teacher.
Also, you may say that students would just find another way to make threats if cell phones
were banned, but why make it readily available to them? For this reason alone, our students’
safety is one on the line. Why take the risk?
In an article I read, cell phones in a district were being used to promote violence through
fighting. The point here is that when cell phones are allowed in school, they are not always
being used for educational purposes, but instead we see a negative side. An expert says, “I think
people have to rise themselves up from a level of convenience to a level of safety. I think that
is where we are at in this country.” students should come to school and feel safe. If we through
the use of cell phones, take that feeling of safety away from our students, then we as teachers
have failed.
4. When the writer states that “…then we as teachers have failed.” (paragraph 4), she/he
wants to emphasize that…
a. She does not agree with the use of cell phones in school.
b. Students’ feeling safe will be secured without cell phones in school.
c. Cell phones in schools become a serious challenge for teachers.
d. Teachers need to warrant that students’ safety from cell phone use.
e. Students’ safety can be delimited through cell phones.
5. What is the topic of the text above?
a. Downsides in the use of cell phones in the classroom
b. Threats in the cell phone use in the school context
c. Misused of cell phones by elementary school students
d. Cell phone wrong use among students in the classrooms
e. The effect of using cell phones on student’s achievement
6. The word ‘these’ in “In my opinion, use of cell phones in classes has these drawbacks:”
(paragraph 3) refers to how many points of the writer’s concern?
a. 3
b. 5
c. 1
d. 4
e. 2
7. Based on the information from the text, the main concern of the writer is …
a. Teacher’s success
b. Student’s safety
c. Student’s convenience
d. Student’s achievement
e. School’s prestige
Government should not raise fuel price to solve the problem of economic issues. People
were affected severely with the high fuel price like last year. Obviously they cut their spending.
As an example, they had to buy lower quality of rice or palm oil. There were also fewer buyers
of secondary commodities like flour, or canned meat or fish.
Furthermore, the condition of low income family will become even worse because their
expenses will increase while their salaries will not. Many companies will have to trim the
number of employees because they are incapable of managing, buying or selling price, standard
wages and personal affairs.
Finally, government should not raise fuel price to overcome economic problem but the
solution should be sought by tapping into the nation’s own potential and utilizing it to enhance
productivity to its maximum.
