1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Project Framework
This procedure is related to the renovation project of the Tazi Palace in Tangier. This building’s
construction work had begun back in the 40's and is now the center plan to a luxurious palace
project.
The project is located on the north side of Tangier Golf Club and Eastern south side of the Park
Rmelate.
Following a pre-conducted rewearing, the geotechnical context of the ancient palace includes
the construction of a reinforcement by a “paroi berlinoise” on a major part of its surrounding
sides. The work consists of micropiles armed with metal profiles and rods of armed anchors of
prestressed bars.
It will be referred hereinafter to SOLSIF MAROC as “The Subcontractor” and to SOGEA MAROC
as the “Client”.
1.2. Object
This method statement is to:
- Describe the methodology of construction works of micro piles and anchors with the
material and human resources of SOLSIF MAROC

material storage sheds/ stockpiles will be erected on suitable reclaimed sub-base material.
Micropiles will be laid-out by the Client following the phasing defined by the subcontractor.
Altimetry level are provided for conducting the drilling of micropiles.
3.2.2. Drilling
3.2.2.1. Overview
The drilling is carried out from the platform using a thermal drill rig equipped with a tool adapted to
the characteristics of the soils encountered (hardness, abrasiveness, density, fracturing,
homogeneity ...).
The slide (or drilling mast) is positioned according to the inclination defined on the execution plans.
The first drill pipe is equipped at its base with the tool at the specified diameter and adapted to the
site conditions (tricone bit, downhole hammer ...). If deemed necessary, a preliminary cased hole
can be set up for holding the head of borehole wall.
The tool is placed on the ground, the drilling fluid injection is started, rotation is activated.
Throughout the drilling to the planned depth, the driller must ensure its successful implementation:
• Management maintained (by checking the level of gradient)
• Good rise cuttings
• Stability borehole wall
The air flow rate is set so as to have a consistent flow rate with the advancement of the tool and
the blowing of cuttings.
Two techniques can be adopted:
• rotary drilling by crushing using a tricone

The suitable tool disintegrating the soil and drilling continues with the addition of successive rods
to the planned depth. Tightening the screw elements must be in abutment by means of the
guillotine or key claw.
For the duration of drilling, the driller must ensure that the drilling rail keeps the desired position to
prevent deflection.
Once the depth dimension of the drilling is reached, the driller cleans the borehole, blow sweeping
on the final length rod until the air comes out clean and free of dust.
The rods are then outputs drilling and placed on the stage close to the following borehole.
The length of the profiles is adjusted to meet the depth of final borehole. Depending on the
challenges of the site (lifting height limited by existing building) the profiles can be cut into two
lengths and recovered by welding.
Slinging / hooking points are created using the torch at the core of the section.

After cleaning the drilling, the sections are lowered into the borehole using the telescopic forklift or
the hoist of the drill rig.
The grout plant is a central process unit that mixes and supplies the borehole with a predetermined
composed sealing cement grout of water content C/W=2.
After micropiles’ equipment, manufacturing the cement grout, it gets poured in under gravity.
An injection cane is lowered to bottom hole and sealing grout is injected until resurgence of clean
and healthy grout to TN.
Inspection test points of the filling grout compliance follows the quality plan attached to this method
statement. The theoretical values of each characteristic of the grout is defined in the technical
standard documents and will be confirmed during the laboratory tests required before
commencement of work.

4. Prestressed bars and injection tubes equipment
5. Low pressure injecting (IGU)
6. Tensioning of anchors, blocking and placing of anchoring heads
The tie rods will be installed by the Client following the phasing defined by the subcontractor.
Layout is materialized by metal stakes and a markup roller.
4.2.2. Drilling
The drilling is carried out from the platform with a thermal drill rig equipped with tools adapted to
the characteristics of the soils encountered (hardness, abrasiveness, density, fracturing,
homogeneity ...).
The suitable tool disintegrating the soil and drilling continues with the addition of successive rods
to the planned depth. Tightening the screw elements must be in abutment by means of the

Once the depth dimension of the drilling is reached, the driller cleans the borehole, blow sweeping
on the final length rod until the air comes out clean and free of dust.
The rods are then outputs drilling and placed on the stage close to the following borehole.
At the end of drilling, the borehole is filled with a cement grout of water content ratio C / W = 2
optionally adjuvanted, this operation will be carried by gravity or low pressure to resurgence of
grout. It will then be proceeded to the placement of the prestressed bars provided with centering
and assembled with the injection tube. The anchors will be equipped with prestressed bars, the
P0 protection rods.

After 8 hours minimum, the anchor rod will be fed with a slurry at a low pressure> 10 bar (IGU).
Grout pressure makes it possible to "slam" the grout injected in the first phase, and increase the
pressure in the desired area. The feedback tube has at least one cuff per meter.
4.2.5. Tensioning
Before making the tensioning, the pulling of the bedding grout must have reached a minimum and
sufficient strength. Laboratory tests will verify this minimum resistance, usually reached after a
minimum of 7 days (depending on cement, temperature, admixtures ...).
The tie is blocked at a locking traction Tb defined in the execution plans and confirmed by pull-out
tests carried out by the Client.
Unnecessary on-lengths can be cut.

Quality control plan is to define the work execution control parameters and inspection points of the
different stages in the execution of micro piles and anchors.
The program of inspection points attached collects all testing during each phase of work.
Each micropile and anchor finalized will be documented by a summary sheet of execution.
