12V DC to 220-230V AC Inverter

Literature Survey:
This simple low power DC to AC inverter (dc to ac converter) circuit converts 12V DC to
230V or 110V AC. By doing simple modification you can also convert 6V DC to 230V
AC or 110V AC.
It can give the power output more than 60 watts. We can connect a bulb or the
equipment that uses the 60 watts power.
It can be used as inverter for home needs to enable light loads (electric bulb, CFL, etc)
at the time of electricity failure.
You can construct this circuit of simple inverter at a cheap rate with locally available
components. Use a 12V rechargeable battery or a 12V power supply for this DC to AC
inverter. We have already posted the circuit for battery charger and power supply.
Components Required:
1. IC CD4047
2. Resistors (1K, 18K, 100Ω- 0.5W x 2)
3. Capacitor (0.22µF)
4. 12V rechargeable battery or 12V DC supply.
5. Battery charger circuit
6. IRFZ44 MOSFET x 2
7. Step UP Transformer (230V primary 12V-0-12V, 6A secondary)
Implementation of Proposed Designed Solution:
We used a 12V DC power supply to implement this inverter circuit. This Power
supply easily help us to give the 12V DC voltage from 220V AC voltage.
The inverter circuit is built around IC CD4047 which is wired as astable
multivibrator.
The operating frequency of astable multivibrator is set to 50Hz.
The power MOSFETs IRFZ44 are directly driven by the Q and Q’ output of
CD4047.
The power MOSFETs are connected in Push Pull configuration (Power amplifier).
The MOSFETs will switch according to the pulse from CD4047 a stable
multivibrator.
Thus an AC voltage is transferred to the primary of transformer; it is stepped up
to 230V.
The transformer used here is step up transformer which is connected to give the
primary of 12V AC to 220V AC and 6A which builds an output power of 60 watts.
The inverter output is filtered by capacitor C2.
Use suitable heat sinks for MOSFETs. That will keep MOSFETs from heating.

12V DC 220-230V AC and 60 watts
While implementing our inverter we found that it gave a square wave. By applying 12V
DC voltage we got 220-230V AC voltage and 60 watts output power.
