Helina-Anti Tank Missile

• The Helicopter-launched anti-tank missile Helina was successfully

launched variant of the Nag, a fire-and-forget ATGM with
an estimated range of 4 kilometers.

strengthening the defence capabilities of the country.

communication techniques for meeting the
requirements of the Indian Army in the 21st century.
Generally a signal corps is a military branch,
responsible for military communications (signals).

digital communications.
It works closely with Defense Research and Development
Organization (DRDO).
It has developed command and control software, notably

• Maiden ‘Regional Maritime-Safety Conference’ is being

Theme: ‘Regional Maritime-Safety Conference’.

The objective of the conference is to deliberate on issues


related to assuring maritime safety in the India-ASEAN
sub region, safeguarding our shores and promoting trade
along the sea routes. The conference will address a wide
range of issues that affect regional maritime safety,
including transport safety, maritime law, ship building,
transportation of hazardous goods, marine oil spill,
pollution and environmental safety.
Maiden ‘Regional Maritime-Safety Conference’:

The inaugural edition is being organised by the National


Maritime Foundation (NMF) in coordination with the
Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of External Affairs.
National Cyber Forensic Lab

• Union Home Minister inaugurated the National Cyber

Detection Centre (CyPAD) of Delhi Police recently.

NFCL is inaugurated under the Indian Cyber Crime


Coordination Centre (i-4C).

i-4C deals with cyber crimes such as financial frauds,


circulation of communal and pornographic contents.

NFCL will have equipment’s to deal with memory


forensics, image enhancement, crypto currency forensics,
recovery of damaged hard drive and advanced mobile
forensics.
National Cyber Forensic Lab

The lab will also function as an all-India


base to deal and coordinate with cyber
threats, where nation- wide information
will be generated and stored at the National
Cyber Reporting Portal.
State police units will have access to the
facilities and can get their forensic samples
analyzed.

It is a navy drill being conducted by Iran.


It aims to evaluate the navy’s equipment, practice launching
weapons and enable the troops to gain readiness for a real battle.

Why In • It is an India-Bangladesh joint Military exercise


News conducted in Bangladesh.

It is an important bilateral defence cooperation endeavour


between India and Bangladesh.
It will be the 8th edition of the exercise which is hosted
alternately by both countries.

It is aimed to strengthen and broaden the aspects of


interoperability and cooperation between the Indian and
Bangladesh Armies.

It will involve tactical level operations in a counter


insurgency and counter terrorism environment under the
UN mandate.
Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air missiles (QRSAM)

Why In • The indigenously developed Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air missile (QRSAM)


News was successfully test fired from ITR Chandipur, off the Odisha Coast.

It has been developed by the Defence Research and


Development Organisation (DRDO) for the India Army

It has a strike range of 30 km and is capable of


engaging multiple targets.

It uses solid fuel propellant.

It is an all-weather weapon system that is capable of


tracking and firing with precision.
Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air missiles (QRSAM)

It is also an all-terrain missile with electronic counter measures


against jamming by aircraft radars.

Context

• It is an Asia-Pacific military exercise held in Thailand every year.

• It contains three main components:

Milan 2T Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM)

Context
• The Defence Acquisition Council
gave approval for acquisition of
5,000 Milan 2T Anti-tank Guided
Missiles (ATGM) from France.
Milan 2T Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM)

• Milan- 2 is a French 2nd-generation man-portable ATGM which is


produced in India by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) in partnership
with a French firm.

• It has a range of 2 Km.

• Some of the indigenous anti- tank missiles include: NAG, HELINA,


SANT (Stand-off Anti-Tank) Missile, Cannon-launched Laser Guided
Missile (CLGM), SAMHO, AMOGHA-1, AMOGHA-2, AMOGHA-3
Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas

Context
• Recently, India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas has received the
final operational clearance for induction into the Indian Air Force (IAF)
as a Weaponised Fighter Jet.
Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas

• It is indigenously built fighter aircraft and has been designed by


Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and produced by Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
• It is single-seat multi-role jet fighter, powered by single engine and can
also carry out mid-air refueling.
• It is pegged as world’s smallest and lightest supersonic fighter aircraft
in its class.

• It has limited reach of little over 400-km and will be mainly used for
close air-to-ground operations (unlike Russian-origin Sukhoi-30MKIs or
Rafale which have deep strike capability into enemy territory due to
their long range).
Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas

• It is equipped with state-of-the-art Satellite aided Inertial Navigation


System.
• It is not the first indigenous fighter to be inducted into the IAF.

• In April 1967, IAF had formed the first operational squadron with the
indigenous HF-24 Marut fighter.
Artillery Gun Dhanush

Context
• It is the first long-range artillery
gun to be produced in India.
• It is an upgraded version, based on
the original design of the Swedish
155-mm Bofors howitzers, which
India procured in the mid-1980s.
• It is the product of joint efforts by
the Ordinance Factory Board and
the Army with contributions from
the DRDO, DGQA etc. and several
private enterprises.
Chinook Helicopters

Context
• India received Boeing Co.’s
Chinook helicopters that are
expected to bolster the heavy-lift
capabilities of its air force and
further strengthen the fast-
expanding defence ties with the US.
Chinook Helicopters

• It is a multi-role, vertical-lift platform, which is used for transporting


troops, artillery, equipment and fuel.
• It is also used for humanitarian and disaster relief operations and in
missions such as transportation of relief supplies and mass evacuation of
refugees.
• It is also expected to give a significant boost to infrastructure
development along India’s borders given the Chinook has the capability
to ferry heavy cargo like road construction equipment over difficult
terrain.
