This standard covers hot-dip zinc-aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated steel sheets and coils.

㉿ Hot-dip zinc-aluminium-magnesium
alloy-coated steel sheets and coils
1 Scope
This standard specifies the steel sheets and coils that have been hot-dip plated in a plating bath of which
the sum of magnesium and aluminum comprises 1.5 %∼8 % and zinc comprises the rest (hereinafter
referred to as sheets and coils). In this case, sheets include the corrugated steel sheets of the shapes
and dimensions specified in KS D 3053.
2 Normative references
The following documents, in whole or in part, are normatively referenced in this document and are
indispensable for its application. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated
references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
Sheets and coils shall be classified into 6 types using blackplate produced by hot rolling (hereinafter
KS D 3030:2013
referred to as “hot-rolled blackplate”) and 10 types using blackplate produced by cold rolling (hereinafter
referred to as “cold-rolled blackplate”). The symbols shall conform to Table 1 and Table 2.

NOTE 1 For the sheets and coils of SGMCD3 of which nonaging property is guaranteed as specified

Nonaging property means a property that does not generate stretcher train during
processing.
NOTE 2 Other marked thicknesses than those in Table 2 can be discussed between client and
manufacturer.
NOTE 3 When used for roofs and building shells, R for roofs or A for building shells shall be added to
the end of the designations in Table 2. In this case, the marked thickness and the
designations for coating weight shall comply with Annex A.
NOTE 4 For corrugated sheets in accordance with KS D 3053, W and the shape symbol of the
corrugated sheet shall be added to the designations in Table 2. In this case, the marked
thickness and the coating weight designation shall comply with Annex B.
NOTE 5 For corrugated sheets, the types in Table 2 for general, general hard materials and
structures shall be used.

4 Chemical composition
The chemical composition of the base metal for the sheets and coils (ladle analysis value) shall conform
to Table 3 when a hot-rolled blackplate is used or Table 4 when a cold-rolled blackplate is used.
The skin pass processing for smooth surface shall be specified by client. The symbol in this case shall be

6 Coating weight
The coating weight shall be tested in accordance with clause 16.2. The minimum coating weight of both
sides (total of both sides) of the same thickness plating on both sides and the coating weight designation
shall be as follows:

a) The coating weight of the same thickness on both sides of sheets and coils shall be indicated by the
mass of both sides, and the minimum coating weight and coating weight designations shall conform to
Table 5.

8 Oiling
The types and symbols of sheets and coils shall conform to Table 7. However, no oiling shall be used
unless specified otherwise.

For the bendability of sheets and coils specified in clause 9.1, when tested in accordance with clause
16.4 and Table 9, no flaking marks, and no cracks (recognizable by naked eye) and fractures on the
external surface (at least 7 mm inside from either edge on the width of the test piece).

10 Marking of dimensions
The markings of dimensions for sheets and coils shall conform to the following:
a) For the thickness of sheets and coils, the thickness of blackplate before plating shall be the marked
thickness and the thickness after plating on the blackplate shall be the product thickness.
b) For the dimensions of sheets, the marked thickness, width, and length shall be presented in mm.
c) For the dimensions of coils, the marked thickness and width shall be presented in mm.
11 Standard dimensions
The standard dimensions of sheets and coils shall conform to the following. However, the standard
marked thickness of corrugated sheets and the standard length of the corrugated sheets before
processing of the troughs shall comply with Annex B. Furthermore, the standard length and standard
finishing width of corrugated sheets shall comply with KS D 3053.
a) The standard marked thickness: The standard marked thickness of sheets and coils shall conform to
Table 12.
b) The standard width and the standard length of sheets: The standard width and the standard length of
sheets shall conform to Table 13.

12 Tolerances of dimensions
The tolerances of product thickness for sheets and coils shall conform to the following:
a) The tolerances of product thickness shall be the marked thickness presented in numbers with three
decimal places plus the equivalent plating thickness in Table 17.
b) The tolerances of product thickness shall conform to Table 14, Table 15, or Table 16.
c) The measured parts of product thickness shall be random points at 25 mm inside from the side edges.

Te tolerances of the widths of sheets and coils shall conform to Table 18. The measured parts shall be
the normal pars of coils and the random parts of sheets. However, the tolerances of the finishing width of
corrugated sheets shall comply with KS D 3053.
The tolerances of length shall conform to Table 19. The measured parts shall be random parts of the
sheet.
13 Shapes
The maximum values of horizontal bending of sheets and coils shall conform to Table 20 or Table 21.

The out of squareness of sheets shall be expressed as W 100 (%) in Figure 1 and shall not exceed 1 %.

13.3 Flatness
The flatness of sheets shall conform to Table 22 or Table 23. The flatness shall be measured on a
surface plat. The value shall be the maximum deformation minus the thickness of the plate which shall be
applied to the top surface of the plate.

The weights of coils shall be expressed in kg according to the actual or calculated weights.
The weight calculation method of sheets and coils shall conform to Table 24 depending on the marked
dimensions and the coating weight.

The tolerance of the calculated weight of sheet shall be expressed as a percentage obtained by dividing
the difference between the calculated weight obtained in accordance with clause 14.3 and the actual
weight by the calculated weight, which shall conform to Table 26.

15 Appearance
The sheets and coils shall have no defects harmful for use. However, this is not applicable to a little
abnormal parts of the welded parts, etc for coils.
16 Test
16.1.1 General requirements of the analysis test and sampling method for analysis test pieces
The chemical composition of the base metal of sheets and coils shall be obtained by ladle analysis. The
general requirements of the analysis tests and the sampling method for specimens shall comply with
clause 4. (Chemical composition) of KS D 0001.
The analysis test method shall comply with KS D 1654 and KS D 1655.
For the test materials, one sheet shall be collected for every 50 t and its fraction of the product with the
same dimensions and coating weight.
For corrugated sheets, the test materials shall be collected in plate condition before trough processing.
The sampling method for test piece shall comply with either the 3-point method in clause 4.2.1 b)
(Sampled location and size of test piece) of KS D 0201 or the method in Annex C.
The coating weight shall be measured for both sides. The test method shall use the antimony chloride
solution in KS D 0201, or hexamethylenetetramine, or the method in Annex C. The coating weight
measuring test method with online X-ray fluorescence spectrometry may be used by agreement between
client and manufacturer.

When the corrosion resistance of the plating is tested, it shall comply with the method in clause 8. (cycle
test method) of KS D 8334.
Furthermore, this test shall be conducted by agreement between client and manufacturer, and the
evaluation criteria (establishment standard values and characteristics values) may be agreed between
client and manufacturer.
The general requirements of the bending test shall comply with clause 5. (Mechanical properties) of KS D
0001.
For the test materials, one sheet shall be collected for every 50 t and its fraction of the product with the
same dimensions and coating weight.
The test piece shall have a width between 75 mm and 125 mm and a length that is equal to twofold of the
width. Unless specified otherwise, one test piece in parallel to the rolling direction of the blackplate shall
be collected from a test material.
For the bending operation of the test piece, a manual vice shall be used to bend the test piece in the
length direction of the test piece as shown in Figure 2. However, if no vice can be used, an appropriate
method may be used.

For the test materials, one sheet shall be collected for every 50 t and its fraction of the product with the
same dimensions and coating weight.
The test piece shall be no.5 test piece in KS B 0801. One test piece shall be collected from the test
material in the directions indicated in Table 10 and Table 11.
The thickness used for calculation of tensile strength shall be the actual thickness after removal of the
plating layer or the actual thickness including the plating layer minus the equivalent plating thickness.
17 Inspection
17.1 Inspection

If any part of the coating weight test, bending test, and tensile test records does not conform to the
specifications, The tests that do not conform to the specifications may be retested in accordance with
clause 5.4 (Retest) of KS D 0001 and its compliance shall be determined by the result.
18 Markings
The sheets and coils that pass the inspection shall be marked with the following information for each
package or bundle in an appropriate method. However, the following information may be marked
appropriately for each sheet by agreement between client and manufacturer.
a) Designations (for corrugated sheets, the shape symbol of corrugated sheet shall be included)
b) Symbols of skin pass processing, chemical conversion treatment, oiling, etc.
NOTE These designations shall be marked when the client specifies them.
c) Coating weight designations
d) Dimensions (marked thickness only is acceptable for one sheet)
e) Number of sheets or weight (may be omitted for one sheet)
f) Manufacturer name or its abbreviation
g) Product identification number

To specify items properly in accordance with this standard, the client and manufacturer are advised to
include the following information in the transaction sheet or order sheet.

If the client requested it in advance, the manufacturer shall prepare and submit an inspection document to
the client. In this case, the report shall conform to clause 9. (Report) of KS D 0001.

A.1 Scope
This Annex specifies the marked thickness and the symbols indicating the coating weight of sheets and
coils for roofs and building shells (cold-rolled blackplate is used).

Annex C
(Normative)
C.1 Scope
This annex specifies the coating weight test method by X-ray fluorescent spectrometry for hot-dip zinc-
aluminum-magnesium alloy-coated steel sheets and coils.

The test piece size shall be sufficient for the fluorescent X-ray radiation area of 314 mm to 2 518 mm .
The test piece shall be collected from the location indicated in Figure C.1 from the test material sampled
in accordance with clause 16.2.1 of the main body. However, the zinc coating weight at the same location
as this may be measured without sampling the test piece.

b) X-ray generator unit: This unit consists of an X-ray tube that can obtain sufficient X-ray dose for
measuring the component elements of the test piece and a power supplier that can supply the
required acceleration voltage and tube current.
c) Spectroscope and radiation receiver unit: This unit detects the fluorescent X-ray of the zinc
generated by the excitation by the irradiated X-ray. It consists of a sample room, goniometer,
collimator or slit, spectrum crystals and detector. The detector is composed of Geiger-Muller counter,
scintillation counter, etc.
d) Counter and recorder unit: This unit measures, indicates and records the output of the detector.
Many of these units have an operation circuit unit for automation of measurement. It is composed of
ratemeter, proportional amplifier, pulse height analyzer, scaler, timer, and printer.
The test apparatus using an x-ray tube for radiation source shall be as follows.

b) Radiation source unit: A radioisotope radiation source that can obtain sufficient X-ray dose for
exciting and measuring the component elements is used.
c) Detector and spectroscope unit: This unit detects and spectroscopes the fluorescent X-ray of zinc
that is excited and generated by the -ray radiation. It is composed of sample room, collimator or slit,
detector, proportional amplifier, pulse height analyzer, etc. For detectors, a proportional counter tube,
scintillation counter, Geiger-Muller counter, etc. are used.
d) Counter and recorder unit: This unit measures, indicates and records the output of the pulse height
analyzer. Many of these units have an operation circuit unit for automation of measurement. It is
composed of ratemeter, scaler, timer, and printer.
The measured spectrum rays shall be primary ray of ZnK with a wavelength of 14.35 nm.
C.5 Operation
a) Attach the test piece correctly to the sample room of the apparatus.
b) Radiate X-ray or -ray to the test piece in accordance with the predefined conditions and read the
fluorescent X-ray dose with an indicator.

c) Using a test piece with the zinc coating weight determined by the method specified in KS D 0201,
draw a calibration curve from relational equation of the intensity of fluorescent X-ray and the zinc
coating weight .

d) Convert the value on the indicator to the zinc coating weight per 1 m (one side, g/m ) based on the
chart (calibration curve) corresponding to the established conditions.
e) Repeat the above operation for the back of the test piece and get the zinc coating weight. Use the
sum of the zinc coating weight on the surface and back as zinc coating weight of the test piece (both

sides, g/m ).
