Melaina Harris is an exceptional student with a near perfect 3.935 GPA who has challenged herself academically and artistically throughout high school. Her school counselor recommends her highly for admission, noting her work ethic, intellectual promise, and determination to succeed despite personal struggles, including being raised by a single mother and recently losing a cousin to suicide. Though sometimes quiet, Melaina has strong leadership potential and all the attributes to excel and contribute positively at the college level.

To Whom It May Concern,
It is my pleasure to recommend Melaina Harris for admission to your institution. I have known Melaina for 3.5 years as her school counselor at the Academy for Math, Engineering & Science (AMES) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Melaina is an exceptional student. Her work ethic and desire to succeed is of the highest caliber. She has challenged herself every year and has a near perfect 3.935 GPA. Melaina is a very bright student with great intellectual promise. She is a wonderful student and friend with great motivation to go to college and succeed. She can be quiet at times but in the right crowd she has a strong potential to lead. In addition to challenging herself in her core classes, Melaina is artistically talented, producing art that is mature, full of emotion and strikingly beautiful. I am excited to see what Melaina chooses to do with her life and I hope it includes art. Melaina hasn’t been without struggles in her life. She was raised by a single mother because her dad is and was emotionally manipulative. Her and her mom were able to live with her aunt and her large family for most of Melaina’s childhood. Because of this closeness she considers her 6 older cousins siblings. Just last spring, one of these siblings, an AMES alumnus, committed suicide after a lifetime of pain from a hip condition. As you can imagine, Melaina, her family and the AMES family were devastated but Melaina is determined to live her best life for Marcus. Thoughtful, selfless, and kind, Melaina has all the attributes to be an outstanding addition to any college campus. Thank you the opportunity to recommend Melaina. If you have any further questions regarding Melaina’s qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Kari Gardner School Counselor Academy for Math, Engineering & Science [email protected] - 801.278.9460 ext. 104
