Introduction
Online shopping is one of the variations of e-commerce. However, there are concerns regarding with the
customer satisfaction and safety even up to this date.
Here, the proponent will evaluate what are the lapses towards the online shopping trend so that any
potential customer will be able to know what are the possible events that they may encounter.
II. Argument
A. No return, no exchange policy is one practice exercised by the retailers nowadays.
1. Lots of shoppers will only discover any defect soon as they received the ordered product and
will invalidate their want to receive a refund or any replacement since they bought it at their own risk.
2. There is no hard-and-fast rule on the period within which a customer may return the products
he purchased. A rule of reason, should, however, be observed, taking into consideration the nature of the
item purchased and the express or implied warranties like R.A. 7394 or Consumer Act. Such statement
is considered deceptive because consumers may return or exchange the goods or avail of other remedies,
in case of hidden faults or defects, or any charge the buyer was not aware of the time of purchase. By
provision of law, sellers are obligated to honor their implied warranties and grant corresponding
remedies to consumers.
B. Delay in the shipment or delivery.
1. The arrival of goods are usually delayed according to the days as promised. It is one of the few
reasons that any online shops receive bad review towards their service.

2. As a customer right, if the company is unexpectedly unable to ship as promised, it is required

to provide adequate notice to the customer, including weather-related problems. Notices with revised
shipping dates must be quickly sent out to all customers. Customers must be allowed to agree to the
delay, receive a prompt refund, or cancel the order. If the seller can’t meet the revised shipping date, it
must notify you again by mail, email or telephone and give you a new shipping date or cancel your order
and give you a refund. The order should be canceled and a refund issued promptly unless you indicate
by the revised shipping date that you are willing to wait. Likewise, retailers are required by law to
explain your right to a full refund for undelivered goods.

C. Scam in online shopping.

1. Only few shoppers were able to fact check if these online shoppers are legit stores.
2. Some of the fraudsters will not necessarily interact with you, but try to get a hold of financial
information using different methods. With most financial transactions now done online, scammers have
adapted their techniques to try to get victims´ money and financial details through fake websites or sending
emails asking for bank details. Make no mistake, just emailing or chatting with someone in the Philippines
can be a dangerous game. If there is communication, there is risk. The other reason why the number of
victims continues to increase is that people are not using as much as they should the tools available to
prevent online scam. Getting a background check in the Philippines is not a luxury; it is a necessity if you
want to avoid being a victim. Many of the victims wait until it is too late or try to do their own
investigations online, but soon they discover how hard it is to find real evidence, especially if they are
overseas. Private investigations are designed to provide relevant information in order to prevent bad things
from happening, it is important to remain cautious and let professional local investigators take care of this,
so you know the facts.
D. False Advertisements in online stores.
1. For some reason shoppers do not meet the expectation from what they ordered compared to the
product advertised to them.
2. False advertising is any published claim that is deceptive or untruthful. Misleading advertising
is any published claim that gives a consumer an incorrect understanding of the product they are interested
in purchasing or using. The false and misleading advertising by companies of any product may result in
the consumer suffering a financial loss, or another form of damage to the consumer. The financial losses
or damages acquired by a consumer due to the false or misleading advertising may not be significant.
However, this is not a cost that any consumer should have to endure. Consumers who have suffered from
financial losses or other damages may participate in a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for
any losses incurred.
III. Conclusion
With increased use of Internet, more and more people are drawn towards online shopping. This means of
buying products has gained immense popularity in today's times. Earlier, Internet was only accessible to people
of developed countries, but recent revolution has made it accessible to almost all parts of the world. With
increased awareness, people now flock towards Internet for shopping. The concept of shopping goods through
online services has been highly recognized and accepted, as it provides several benefits to the customer.
However, every good aspect has a bad side to it and this is applicable to online shopping as well. If you are
trying this shopping method for the first time, the proponent will advise you to have knowledge about R.A.
7394 or Consumer Act. Also, weigh the pros and cons and decide for yourself whether you would like to go for
it or not.
