MORTUI VIVOS DOCENT

( THE DEAD TEACH THE LIVING )

GENERAL RULES AT THE DISSECTING ROOM.

STUDENTS MUST:

1. Prepare him / herself for Laboratory practice, including :

1.1. Study the Lab. Manual accordingly before coming to Dissection Room.
1.2. Bring along Anatomy dissecting instruments ( minimum 1 for each group )
1.3. Bring along Lab. Manual, Anatomy atlas and ( if necessary ) anatomy
lecture materials
1.4. Wear the required Laboratory dress properly
2. Respect the cadavers as the students respect their teachers.
3. NOT make fun of cadavers or parts of the cadavers whatever the condition of the
cadavers or parts of the cadavers might be.
4. NOT throw part of the cadaver if his / her fellow student wants to borrow the
specimen.
5. Give / take directly the specimen from his / her fellow student if he / she wants
to lend / borrow the specimen.
6. NOT damage cadavers or parts of the cadavers on purpose or for fun.
7. Work very carefully to avoid accidents from dissection instruments.

WEEK THREE : WEDNESDAY , AUGUST 24, 2016

TOPICS : BRAIN AND CEREBROVASCULAR

COMPETENTCY AREA : 5

COMPETENTCY LEVEL : 4A ( ABLE TO IDENTIFY )

1
LEARNING OBJECTIVES :

After finished laboratory practice Student should be able to :

1. Identify components of the central nervous system at the specimens

2. Identify major parts of the brain and the lobes of the cerebral cortex
3. Identify parts of the subcortical structures, including basal ganglia , thalamus, hypothalamus,
fornix and hyppocampal
4. Name the main arteries that supply the Central Nervous System
5. Identify anatomical distribution of branches of the cerebral and basilar vessels which arises
from carotid and vertebro-basilar vessels
6. Identify Cerebral arterial cycle of Willis ( Circulus arteriosus Willisii )

ATTENTION FOR STUDENTS :

To achieve the learning objectives Students at Dissection Room do the following

procedures :

1. Identify components of central nervous system at the specimens. Look for Right and left
cerebral hemispheres (hemispheriae cerebrales dextra et sinistra)
2. Diencephalon
3. Brain stem ( truncus encephalicus ) :
3.1. Mesencephalon
3.2. Pons Varoli
3.3. Medulla oblongata
4. Cerebellum
5. Spinal cord ( medulla spinalis )
6. Identify parts of subcortical structures at the specimens. Look for :
6.1 Thalamus
6.2. Hypothalamus
6.3. Fornix
6.4. Hyppocampus
6.5. Basal nuclei/ganglia ( nuclei/ganglia basalis ). Look for :
6.5.1. Corpus striatum ; consists of :
6.5.1.1. Caudate nucleus ( nucleus caudatus )
6.5.1.2. Lentiform/lenticular nucleus ( nucleus lentiformis/lenticularis )
6.5.1.2.1. Putamen
6.5.1.2.2. Globus pallidus
6.5.2. Amygdaloid body ( corpus amygdaloideum )
6.5.3. Claustrum
7. Discuss among the group blood supply of the Central Nervous system
.7.1. Names of the arteries that supply CNS
7.2. The origins of those arteries.
7.3. Cerebral arterial cycle of Willis ( Circulus arteriosus Willisii ); location and components
8. Identify at the specimen the distribution of cerebral blood circulation.
9. Identify Cerebral arterial cycle of Willis ( Circulus arteriosus Willisii )
