Dear Melissa,
I hope you are well. Guess what! I am having a big party next week at my house and
I am inviting all my close friends. The theme of the party is going to be Harry Potter,
so all must dress accordingly. You would make a great witch! I need to let everyone
know by Wednesday since I am throwing the party next Saturday. Sam is going to
decorate the house and my mother is going bake a cake and make lots of food.
There is going to be music and dancing as well. John is going to be the DJ. You can
stay over at my house. It’s going to be great! I hope to see you then.
Love,
Sarah

Hi, my name’s Andriy. I love football, I am a great fan of AC Milan. I have also been
interested in cars since I was a child. I’m crazy about driving and I also enjoy fixing
cars. When I was ten, I had many toy cars. I would play with them, repair the ones
my friends broke. I also used to help my dad fix his car. So, eventually I decided to
become a mechanic and open up my own shop. My parents are happy with my
choice, too. Because they think it’s important that I pursue a carrier that I like. I have
a bright career now and I really enjoy it. I’m planning to get married soon. My
girlfriend is also interested in cars. Who knows, maybe we can run the car shop
together with our kids in the future.

Hi, my name is Tina. I am thirteen years old and today I want to talk about my best
friend Selena. She is my classmate and she is thirteen years old too. We attend a
very big school near Scotland. We share the same desk and love the same school
subjects. Our favorite lessons are Arts and Physical Education. I am very good at
tennis and she is very good at volleyball. She plays volleyball at our school team. We
both have a busy life. We always get up at a half past six and at seven o’clock her
father takes us to school by car. They live next door to us, so after school we always
do our homework, walk our dogs and play together. Our classes start at half past
seven and finish at 4 p.m. Her mother is a nurse. My mother is a nurse too and they
work at the same hospital. Our fathers are both engineers but they work at different
companies. On Mondays, Selena has violin class and I have piano class. On
Tuesdays and Thursdays she practices volleyball at the school’s gym and I play
tennis in our school court. Friday is my favorite day because Selena stays overnight
with us. On the weekends, we usually go to the movie theater or have a picnic if the
weather is good. I am the only child, I don’t have a sister but she is like a sister to
me.
Part 2
Every summer Nichole goes to the countryside for a month. She stays at her uncle’s
farm and helps him. She works very hard but she likes it because she loves to spend
time with her cousin Macy. Every morning she wakes up at six o’clock, first she
collects the eggs and feeds the chickens, then she has breakfast at 6:30 and after
breakfast, she helps her aunt with the house chores for an hour. She can't wait to
spend time with her cousin Macy. They always have a great time together. They
climb trees, pick fruits and flowers. They love being outdoors. They come back home
before dark and get ready for dinner. After dinner, they go out and feed the animals.
Before they go to bed they watch TV for a little bit or read books. They are always
very tired at the end of the day and usually fall asleep watching TV or reading.
Read the text about Edinburgh and decide if the sentences below are True or False.
Edinburgh
A visit to Scotland often begins in Edinburgh,
the capital city of Scotland. Edinburgh is an old
city with many important and interesting
buildings. After London, Edinburgh is the
second city for visitors in
Britain.
If you come to Edinburgh by train from the south, the first
thing you see when you leave Waverley Station is
Edinburgh Castle. It stands high over the city. Soldiers in
kilts take visitors around and tell them the castle’s story.
Edinburgh is a hilly city but it is a good city to visit on foot. After the castle,
you can visit more of the Old Town. Go down the Royal Mile to
Holyroodhouse - the Queen’s home when she
comes to Edinburgh. It is three hundred years
old.
You can look at the shops on the Royal Mile or
on Princes Street in the New Town. Some shops
sell the famous Scottish tartans and you can see
the name of the family which goes with each tartan. Near Princes Street
is Charlotte Square, which is very beautiful. There is also the National
Gallery of Scotland, with pictures from Scotland and from many other
countries too.
In August, you can visit the Edinburgh Festival, the biggest arts festival in
the world with hundreds of different things to do and see.

Hello!
My name is Calvin I am writing this letter to describe my school: Bill
Watterson’s school. It’s a Secondary school.
I like my school. It seems to be a bit old, but it’s cool and has got character.
The teachers are nice and understanding, and we have lots of activities, so
we never get bored.
There are interesting places to go. There are a gymnasium and a big playground. Some
pupils like going there after classes to play football. That’s my favourite sport: I call it
Calvinball! I created my rules...
There is also a library with lots of old books. At first it seems to be an unpleasant place
to stay because of the dust in the bookshelves. In the library there aren’t only books; there
is a television, a computer, some magazines. We can play chess or even cards in there.
Then there are the classrooms. They are many. I didn’t count them. They are cosy and
comfortable. There are some specific rooms, too. Some of them are called
laboratories. There is a laboratory of Chemistry, Physics, Biology and
Maths. There is one computer room, I think. Pupils can go there to do their
project works or homework. This is the best place for me. Finally, there is
a music room. I play the flute. I think I play it well, but my teacher doesn’t
agree.
I really like studying here. My favourite subjects are English and Maths.
I love my timetable. I get up at 7:25 a.m. to come to school every day. I have classes at
8:20. I finish at 3 p.m. every day. It gives me time to do after-school activities like theatre. I
am studying languages and I go to the Language Club three times a week. There I can read
magazines in German and French, watch a foreign video and listen to music.
I think that’s all for today. I will send a map of my school for you to see as it is really
big!
Write to me and talk about your school and your timetable.
Your friend,
understanding = nice, sympathetic
