    Family Tree

    The God family tree is very complicated. It starts out with the first beings and then travels all the
    way to the most famous Olympian Gods. First, Gaia(Mother Earth) came into existence. After
    that, Uranus was born from Gaia. According to CrystalLinks.com, one night Uranus came to lay
    with Gaia. Cronus took this opportunity to strike Uranus. Cronus cut off Uranus’s genitals with
    his sickle. Nymphs and giants were born from the blood that came from Uranus. A white foam
    appeared when Cronus threw the severed genitals into the sea. From the foam came
    Aphrodite.

    The most famous Olympian Gods were born from Cronus. That is called the origin story.
    GreekMythology.com tells of the story. “Cronus had children that would later be called the
    Olympian Gods. However, Cronus heard that one of his sons would overthrow him, so he
    swallowed all of his children to make sure that didn’t happen. Then, Cronus had another child
    named Zeus. Zeus’s mother did not want Cronus to eat Zeus so she hid him in a cave. She
    gave Cronus a rock and said it was Zeus. Cronus fell for the trick and swallowed the rock
    thinking it was Zeus. Zeus then grew up to be big and strong and decided to get back at his
    father. So, Zeus came up with a plan. He would become the cupbearer for Cronus and poison
    it. Zeus followed through with his plan and poisoned Cronus. This poison made Cronus vomit
    out all of his children. Zeus had saved the day and was happy with his victory.” The victory
    started a long career for Zeus as a great leader and father of the Gods.

    Zeus had many of his own children. Athena, Ares, Hebe, and Hephaestus are all children of
    Zeus. According to GreekMythology.com, Zeus also had many affairs. He had affairs with both
    Goddesses and mortals. “The following is an indicative list of characters that Zeus consorted
    with: Europa, Io, Semele, Ganymede, Callisto, Dione, Persephone, Nemesis, Thaleia, Alkmene,
    and Danae.” This family tree doesn’t fully encompass all of the children of Zeus, but it does
    show the most popular children and the ones who most people know. Athena was born from
    Zeus but not from Hera. According to AncientHistoryEncyclopedia, “Accordingly, when Metis
    was pregnant, he swallowed her and Athena was born from Zeus’ head, wearing armour and
    fully grown.” This is a crazy tale, but it shows how some Gods weren’t actually born from their
    parents. Most Gods were created in crazy ways.

    On the other side of the family tree are the famous Titans. Coeus was the son of Uranus and
    Gaia and gave birth to Leto who gave birth to Artemis and Apollo. Hermes was born from Maia
    and Aphrodite was born from Dione. The Gods family tree is very complicated but it shows the
    basics of the Greek Gods and Titans.
