PATRATU SUPER THERMAL POWER PROJECT
In May 2018, PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Patratu Super Thermal Power
Project at an event in Sindri, Jharkhand.
About:
The project is a 74:26 Joint Venture between Government of Jharkhand (GoJ) and Patratu Vidyut
Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (PVUN), a subsidiary company of NTPC.
The project will be developed in two phases: 2,400 MW (3 x 800 MW) in Phase-I and 1,600 MW (2 x
800 MW) in Phase-II.
The commissioning of the first unit is envisaged in 2022.
The project has salient features of Dry Ash disposable system (only second to NTPC Dadri) and Air-
cooled condenser technology (only second to North Karanpura STPP).
IN LCU L54
In May 2018, IN LCU L54 was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Port Blair.
About:
IN LCU L54 is the fourth Landing Craft Utility (LCU) Mk-IV class to be inducted into the Indian Navy.
LCU MK-IV ship is an amphibious ship with its primary role being transportation and deployment of
Main Battle Tanks, Armoured Vehicles, troops and equipment from ship to shore.
The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers
(GRSE), Kolkata.
These ships are based at the Andaman and Nicobar Command. The remaining four ships of the same
class are in advanced stages of construction and will be inducted over the next year and a half.
PUNCHHI COMMISSION
In May 2018, the Standing Committee of the Inter-State Council (ISC) headed by the Union
Home Minister completed its deliberations on all the 273 recommendations of the Punchhi
Commission.

Background:
o WEP was envisaged by the CEO NITI Aayog during Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES),
2017 in Hyderabad.
o On the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8, 2018), NITI Aayog launched it.
Objective: To substantially increase the number of women entrepreneurs by addressing the
bottlenecks faced by both aspiring and established women entrepreneurs.
Three pillars: This aspiration is manifest in the three pillars on which WEP is built –
o Ichha Shakti: Motivating aspiring entrepreneurs to start their enterprise.
o Gyaan Shakti: Providing knowledge and ecosystem support to women entrepreneurs to
help them foster entrepreneurship.
o Karma Shakti: Providing hands-on support to entrepreneurs in setting-up and scaling up
businesses.
Background:
o Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav was conceived by the Ministry of Culture in the year 2015
under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme.
o So far, the Ministry of Culture has organized 8 RSM’s i.e. 2 in Delhi, 2 in Karnataka, 1 each in
Varanasi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and RSM North East in all NE State capitals.
Objective: Its objective is to celebrate the idea of unity in diversity. Events related to various art
forms from classical and folk, music and dance, theatre to literature and the visual arts are
organized during the Mahotsav.

o It was announced by PM Modi on 31st October, 2015 on the occasion of the 140th birth
anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
o Subsequently, the initiative was formally announced in the Union Budget for 2016-17.
Objective: To promote engagement and thereby understanding amongst the people of different
states/UTs to ensure ensure a stronger united India.
Illustrative List of Activities under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat:
o Cultural Exchange Programmes between partnering States.
o Translation of at least 5 Award Winning Books and Poetry, popular folk songs of One State
in the Language of the partner State.
o Exchange programme for Writers and poets.
o Organize Culinary festivals with opportunity to learn culinary practices.
o Organize Educational Tours for schools/Universities Students reciprocally.
o Promotion of Rajya Darshan for tourists.
