Guidelines in Animating the Prayer in the way of Taize

1. Prayer leaders and Cantor should be in front of the congregation.

2. Singers should be heard as if they are singing beside the members of
the congregation.
3. Leader/cantor should sing first before the choir/congregation.
4. Songs should be sung in unison until all of the congregation sings
(Peak); that is the only time when the choir is allowed to sing 2nd voice
or verses (cantor). (Song Progression)
5. There no required number of repeats of each song/chant. What is
important is that the progression of the song reach the peak prior
ending it with the help of the cantor. Song usually ends with an Amen.
6. Song practice of the Song Map (Guide/list of songs to be used on the
actual Prayer) should be done prior the Prayer starts. This should be
done together with the congregation. Once the prayer in the way of
Taize has started it shouldn’t be interrupted.
7. Only use 1 medium (Language) on a song sung. (eg. Sa pagmamahal
shouldn’t be sung in 2nd voice with its translation Ubi Caritas).
8. A 2nd song for opening is only applicable when the 1 st song reached the
peak of song progression fast (when everyone already sings together).
9. Psalm verses should be sung by alternating male and female.
10. Prayers of the faithful can be prepared prior the Prayer in the way of
Taize. (intentions of the Youth, family, Church, Government, and
community.)
11. A copy of the songs and readings to be used should be shared with the
congregation prior starting the prayer in the way of Taize.
12. A guide of the order of worship can be accessed in Taize.fr. Open the
“the wellspring of Faith” section, then prayer section and open prayer
for each day. The website also has a guide in learning how to sing and
play the songs.
