DATA:

Annual Average of Daily Traffic (AADT) = at least 1000 vehicles per day
Designed Speed (Vd) = 60 kph
Superelevation rate (e) = 0.08 by DPWH Manual
Spiral Angle (l1) = 87o
Normal Crown (nc) = 2%
Relative slope (s) = 0.55%

A.) Radius of The Simple Curve (R):

R = 0.004Vd2/e = 0.004(60)2/0.08 = 180 m

-Determining if road is safe

e + fs = Vd2/127R in which fs=0.16 because 60kph < 100kph

0.08 + 0.16 = Vd2/127(180)

Vd = 74.07kph since 60kph < 74.07kph therefore, SAFE

B.) Length of Spiral Curve (Ls):

Ls = w(e + nc)/ s

Ls = 3.35 (0.08+.02) / 0.0055 = 60.91 m

C.) Spiral Angle (Өs):

Өs = (LS/2R) x (180/π)

Өs = (60.91/360 )x 180/π = 9.69

D.) Angle of Intersection of Simple Curve (Ic):

Ic = I1 - 2Өs =87o – 2(9.69o) = 67.61

E.) Length of Simple Curve (Lc):

Lc = IcR x π/180 = 67.61 (180) x π/180 = 212.41 m

F.) Deflection Angle of the Spiral Curve (φs):

φs = Өs/3 since Өs < 20o

φs = 9.69/3 = 3.23o

G.) Coordinates of SC, yc and xc :


For yc:
Yc = Ls2/6R = (60.91)2/6(180) = 3.43 m

For xc:

Xc = Ls - (Ls3/40R2) = 60.91- (60.913/40x1802) = 60.73 m

H.) Offset to Simple Curve (P):

P = YC/4 = 3.43/4 = 0.86 m

I.) Coordinates of Point of Spiral where R intersects the tangent normally,


k & y1:
For k:

k = Ls /2 = 60.91/2 = 30.455 m

For y1:

Y1 = P/2 = 0.86/2 = .0.43 m

J.) External Distance (Es):

Es = (R+P)/cos (I1/2) - R

Es = (180+0.83)/cos (87o/2) - 180 = 69.29 m

K.) Tangent Distance (Ts):

Ts = k + (R + p) (tan I1/2)

Ts = 30.455 + (180+0.86) tan(87/2) Ts = 202.08 m

LT = xc – (yc/tan Өs)

LT = 60.73 – (3.43 /tan 9.69) = 40.63 m

M.)Short Tangent (ST):

ST = yc/sin Өs = 3.43 /sin 9.69= 20.40 m

N.)Long Chord ( LC) :

LC = xc/cos φs = 60.73 / cos 9.69o = 60.83 m

O.) Degree of Curve (Dc):

Dc = 1145.916/R

Dc = 1145.916/180 = 6.37o

0.08 + 0.16 = Vd2/127(180)

Vd = 74.07 kph since 60 kph < 74.07kph therefore, SAFE

B.) Length of Spiral Curve (LS):

Ls = we / s

Ls = 3.35 (0.08+.02) / 0.0055 = 60.91 m

C.) Spiral Angle (Өs):

Өs = Ls /2R x 180/π

Өs = 60.91/2(180) x 180/π = 9.69o

D.) Angle of Intersection of Simple Curve (Ic):

Ic = I1 - 2Өs = 38o – 2(9.69o) = 18.61o

Lc = IcR x π/180 = 18.61 (180) x π/180 = 58.47m

F.) Deflection Angle of the Spiral Curve (φs):

φs = Өs/3 since Өs < 20o

φs = 9.69o/3 = 3.23o

G.) Coordinates of SC, yc and xc :


For yc:
Yc = Ls2/6R = (60.91)2/6(180) = 3.43 m

For xc:

Xc = Ls - (Ls3/40R2) = 60.91 - (5560.91/40x1802) = 60.73 m
