VI. INFORMATION CONT’D
In addition to speed measurement, these sensors allow for directional determination during
tire rotation due to out of phase feedback signals. Refer to Figure 2 for wheel speed sensor
identification and wiring diagram.

NOTE 1: Refer to Figure 2 for Wheel Speed Sensor identification and system wiring diagram.

NOTE 2: Refer to Figure 3 for 104 pin ICP Panel Connectors CN-A, CN-B, CN-C, CN-D, and CN-E

NOTE 3: Refer to Figure 4 for Wheel Speed Sensor & Wheel Speed Sensor Cable Connectors

WARNING: Hazardous voltages are present in this equipment. Ensure that the Control
Power Switch (CPS) is in the OFF position and that the Generator Field Contactor (GFCO)
switch is in the CUTOUT position before attempting any work on control group
components. Check that Capacitor Charge Lights (CCL’s) are not illuminated. Use a VOM to
VERIFY that no voltage is present before touching any terminal. Failure to observe these
precautions may result in serious personal injury or death.

VIL PROCEDURE Initial Checks

Speed sensors must be checked in-circuit during operation. There is no reliable procedure
for checking of the speed sensors out of the circuit.
However, in general, if one speed sensor is generating fault code events, the first step is to
swap the speed sensor that is generating events with one that is not generating events. If
the events that are being generated transfer to a new location, then replace the speed
sensor. If the events remain in the original location, the speed sensor circuitry must be
checked.
When experiencing speed sensor issues, refer first to ACPSB30, “17FB172/179 PSC Inverter
Card Control Power Fuse Location & Testing” to ensure that the +15v fuse that powers the
speed sensor is not blown. Refer to ACPSB30 for additional details on fuse identification
and testing.

lead to CND–62, CND–73, CND–74, CND–75, CND–78, and CND–92. . The ohm reading
should exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not grounded.
d. To check from the speed sensor connector end, sequentially connect the other
meter lead to speed sensor cable connector pins A, B, C, D, E, and F. Refer to Figure 3
for connector pin identification. The ohm reading should exceed 100K ohms indicating
the control wires are not grounded.
5. To check the control wires from the ICP Panel connector CND to ensure the wires are
not shorted together:
NOTE: Refer to Figure 3 for CN plug pin identification.
a. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–62. Sequentially connect the other meter
lead to CND–73, CND–74, CND–75, CND–78, and CND–92. The ohm reading should
exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
b. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–73. Sequentially connect the other meter
lead to CND–74, CND–75, CND–78, and CND–92. The ohm reading should exceed 100K
ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
XI. PROCEDURE CONT’D - Speed Sensor 4 (SS4) Circuit Check
c. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–74. Sequentially connect the other meter
lead to CND–75, CND–78, and CND–92. The ohm reading should exceed 100K ohms
indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
d. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–75. Sequentially connect the other meter
lead to CND–78, and CND–92. The ohm reading should exceed 100K ohms indicating
the control wires are not shorted together.
e. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–78. Connect the other meter lead to
CND-92. The ohm reading should exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are
not shorted together.
6. To check the control wires from the speed sensor cable connector (Figure 4) end to
ensure the wires are not shorted together:
a. Connect one of the meter leads to SS4 cable connector pin A. Sequentially con
the other meter lead to SS4 cable connector pins B, C, D, E, and F. The ohm reading
should exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
b. Connect one of the meter leads to SS4 cable connector pin B. Sequentially connect
the other meter lead to SS4 cable connector pins C, D, E, and F. The ohm reading
should exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
c. Connect one of the meter leads to SS4 cable connector pin C. Sequentially connect
the other meter lead to SS4 cable connector pins D, E, and F. The ohm reading should
exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
d. Connect one of the meter leads to SS4 cable connector pin D. Sequentially
connect the other meter lead to SS4 cable connector pins E, and F. The ohm reading
should exceed 100K ohms indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
e. Connect one of the meter leads to SS4 cable connector pin E. Connect the other
meter lead to SS4 cable connector pin F. The ohm reading should exceed 100K ohms
indicating the control wires are not shorted together.
7. To check continuity of the control wires between the speed sensor (figure 4) and the ICP
panel (Figure 3):
a. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–78. Connect the other meter lead to speed
sensor cable connector pin B. Resistance should be zero ohms indicating the wire is
not broken and pin connections are good.
b. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–92. Connect the other meter lead to speed
sensor cable connector pin A. Resistance should be zero ohms indicating the wire is
not broken and pin connections are good.
c. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–75. Connect the other meter lead to speed
sensor cable connector pin C. Resistance should be zero ohms indicating the wire is
not broken and pin connections are good.
XI. PROCEDURE CONT’D - Speed Sensor 4 (SS4) Circuit Check
d. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–62. Connect the other meter lead to speed
sensor cable connector pin E. Resistance should be zero ohms indicating the wire is
not broken and pin connections are good.
e. Connect one of the meter leads to CND–73. Connect the other meter lead to speed
sensor cable connector pin D. Resistance should be zero ohms indicating the wire is
not broken and pin connections are good.
